Denny, Falkirk
Denny ( gd, Deanaidh) is a town in the Falkirk council area of Scotland. Historically in Stirlingshire, it is situated west of Falkirk, and northeast of Cumbernauld, adjacent to both the M80 and M876 motorways. At the 2011 census, Denny had a resident population of 8,300. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. John Black (footballer, Born 1900)
John Ross Black (26 May 1900 – December 1993) was a Scottish professional footballer who usually played as an outside forward or wing half. Biography John Ross Black was born in Dunipace, Stirlingshire on 26 May 1900. His elder brother Adam played for Leicester City, and holds the record for the most first-team appearances for the club. He served in the Gordon Highlanders Army regiment in the late 1910s, before starting his football career. After his retirement from football, Black continued to live in England, and he died in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, in December 1993 at the age of 93. Career Black started his football career with Scottish Junior side Denny Hibernian in the early 1920s. In April 1921, he was signed as an amateur by Football League First Division club Sunderland. Home Scots v Anglo-Scots was an annual association football trial match organised by the Scottish Football Association between the 1890s and 1920s to examine the abilities of possible players for upcoming full British Home Championship internationals, primarily the 'Auld Enemy' England v Scotland fixture.
