Ada Derana Sri Lankan of the Year (Sinhala:අද දෙරණ වසරේ ශ්‍රී ලාංකිකයා), is an annual award presented to Sri Lankans who have raised Sri Lanka's profile in the international arena through their careers and lifted the name Sri Lanka globally. The awards are presented by the Sri Lankan television channel, TV Derana. Gamini Wijesinghe
H. M. Gamini Wijesinghe was the 40th Auditor General of Sri Lanka. He was appointed on 27 November 2015, succeeding H. A. S. Samaraweera and served until April 2019. He previously held the office of Director General of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standers Monitoring Board. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. He started his political journey as a leadership committee member of National People's Movement (Sri Lanka), National Peoples Movement (NPM) after retiring public service in 2019. Professional career Mr. Wijesinghe joined with public service in 1985 in Auditors general office. He served in government sector for 34 years. He has been to South Korea for further studies where he studied at Kyung Hee University and had overseas training in Maldives. TV Derana
Derana TV is a Sri Lankan private entertainment terrestrial television channel broadcasting in Sri Lanka. Launched on 11 October 2005, it is one of the most popular television networks in the country. Deshamanya Mahesh Amalean (born 4 April 1955) is a Sri Lankan engineer and industrialist. He is the current Chairman of MAS Holdings. Early life and education Amalean was born to parents with Gujarati ancestry, his father was in the family textile business. He studied at Royal College Colombo and graduated from Regional Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli (now known as National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli) with a BTech degree in chemical engineering. Asha De Vos
Asha de Vos (Sinhala:ආශා ඩි වොස් (born 1979) is a Sri Lankan marine biologist, ocean educator and pioneer of blue whale research within the northern Indian Ocean. She is known for her Blue Whale Project. She is a Senior TED Fellow and was chosen for a BBC 100 Women award in 2018. She is a National Geographic 2016 Emerging Explorer Grantee. Rohana Weerasinghe
DR. Rohana Weerasinghe (born February 18, 1949), is a Sri Lankan musician, composer and singer. Early life Weerasinghe was born on 18 February 1949 in Algiriya, Matara in southern Sri Lanka. He was the youngest child to his parents Henry Weerasinghe and Sepalin Weerasinghe. In 1954, Weerasinghe started schooling from Good Shepard Family Convent in Nuwara Eliya, and later moved to Vidyachakra Buddhist School Ruwan Eliya, Welimada Maha Vidyalaya, Pannipitya Dharmapala Vidyalaya and Gamini Maha Vidyalaya Nuwara Eliya. Anusha Koddithuwakku Dirukshi (born 27 December 1978), also known as Anusha Koddithuwakku, is a Sri Lankan boxer who generally competes in light flyweight event. She has competed in several international competitions including the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in 2012, 2014 and 2016. Cecil Balmond OBE is a Sri Lankan–British designer, artist, and writer. In 1968 Balmond joined Ove Arup & Partners, leading him to become deputy chairman. In 2000 he founded design and research group, the AGU (Advanced Geometry Unit).
