Julián Acuña Galé
Julián Baldomero Acuña Galé (27 February 1900 – 24 July 1973) was a Cuban born botanist who served as director of the Agricultural Experimental Station in Santiago de Las Vegas. His research centered on phytopathology and on introduction of new, improved varieties of food and forage plants while his field work produced numerous herbarium collections; among them, many new species he described, or were named for him. Acuña Galé was born in Camagüey, Cuba, and died in Mexico City, Mexico. In 1980, ''Acunaeanthus'' was published, which is a genus of flowering plants in the Family (biology), family of Rubiaceae. Ciudad Acuña, also known simply as Acuña, (originally Garza Galán, later Villa Acuña) is a city located in the Mexican state of Coahuila, at and a mean height above sea level of . It stands on the Rio Grande (locally known as the Río Bravo), which marks the U.S.-Mexico border, and offers two border crossings via Lake Amistad Dam International Crossing and Del Río-Ciudad Acuña International Bridge with the neighboring city of Del Rio in the U.S. state of Texas. Hezy Val B. Acuña II (born August 8, 1986) is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Sta. Rosa Laguna Lions of the Pilipinas Super League. Collegiate career Acuña played straight out of the University of the East Red Warriors in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, where he played for five seasons (2004 and 2006 to 2009). Rodolfo "Rudy" Francisco Acuña, Ph.D., (born May 18, 1932) is an American historian, professor emeritus at California State University, Northridge, and a scholar of Chicano studies. He authored the 1972 book ''Occupied America: A History of Chicanos'', approaching history of the Southwestern United States with a heavy emphasis on Mexican Americans. An eighth edition was published in 2014. Acuña has also written for the ''Los Angeles Times,'' '' The Los Angeles Herald-Express'', ''La Opinión'', and numerous other newspapers. His work emphasizes the struggles of Mexican American people. Acuña is an activist and he has supported numerous causes of the Chicano Movement. Pedro Bravo de Acuña (died June 24, 1606) was a Spanish military officer and colonial official in the New World and the Philippines. From 1602 to 1606 he was the eleventh governor of the Philippines. Silent Old Mtns (Silent Old Mountains) is an American indie rock band, formed in Frederick, Maryland, in 2011 by singer songwriter Andrew Bromhal. They have released two full-length albums and are most noted for their energetic and theatrical live shows.
