Act Of Love (1953 Film)
''Act of Love'' (French title: ''Un acte d'amour'') is a 1953 American romantic drama film directed by Anatole Litvak, starring Kirk Douglas and Dany Robin. It is based on the 1949 novel ''The Girl on the Via Flaminia'' by Alfred Hayes. A Parisian falls in love with an American soldier near the end of World War II. Plot Robert Teller (Kirk Douglas) visits a seaport in the south of France in the early 1950s. He reflects back to his time in the army shortly after Paris has been liberated. Years earlier, to get away from the barracks and the other soldiers, Robert rents a room in a hotel-restaurant. Lise Guidayec (Dany Robin), an orphan without money or identity papers, seeks a way to escape from the authorities. She asks Robert to pass her off as his wife. Even though he does not inspire trust, she starts to fall in love. Lise tells of the time she was the most happy and secure—living in a little seaside village. Anatole Litvak
Anatoly Mikhailovich Litvak (russian: Анатолий Михайлович Литвак; 21 May 1902 – 15 December 1974), better known as Anatole Litvak, was a Ukrainian-born American filmmaker who wrote, directed, and produced films in various countries and languages. He began his theatrical training at age 13 in Petrograd, Russia (now again known as St. Petersburg). Litvak was notable for directing little-known foreign actors to early fame and is believed to have contributed to several actors winning Academy Awards. In 1936 he directed ''Mayerling'', a film which made French actors Charles Boyer and Danielle Darrieux international stars. He returned Swedish star Ingrid Bergman to popularity with American audiences in 1956 with ''Anastasia'', in which she won her second Oscar. He directed Olivia de Havilland to an Academy Award nomination for ''The Snake Pit'' (1948). Robert Strauss (November 8, 1913 – February 20, 1975) was an American actor. He became most familiar in Hollywood films of the 1950s such as ''Stalag 17'' (1953), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Supporting Actor. Career Strauss began his career as a classical actor, appearing in ''Twelfth Night'' and '' Macbeth'' on Broadway in 1930. Comedy became his specialty, and he was known best as ''Stalag 17's'' Stanislas "Animal" Kuzawa, a role he created in the original 1951 Broadway production and reprised in the 1953 film adaptation, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
