Act (drama)
An act is a major division of a theatrical, theatre work, including a play (theatre), play, film, opera, or musical theatre, consisting of one or more Scene (drama), scenes. The term can either refer to a Consciousness, conscious division placed within a work by a playwright (usually itself made up of multiple scenes) or a unit of analysis for dividing a dramatic work into sequences. As applied, those definitions may or may not align. The word ''act'' can also be used for major sections of other entertainment, such as variety shows, television programs, music hall performances, cabaret, and literature. ''Act One'' is an autobiographical 1959 book by playwright Moss Hart. It was the source for a 1963 film and a 2014 Broadway play. Overview The book chronicles Moss Hart's impoverished New York childhood and his long struggle to Broadway success. Adaptations The book was adapted into the film '' Act One'' (1963). James Lapine wrote a stage version ('' Act One''), commissioned by the Lincoln Center Theater and developed by the Vineyard Arts Project. A reading was held in July 2012. There was also a workshop on Martha's Vineyard July 16–21, 2012, which featured Tony Shalhoub, Debra Monk, Chuck Cooper, and David Turner. The play premiered on Broadway, at the Lincoln Center Vivian Beaumont Theater, in previews on March 20, 2014, with the official opening on April 17, 2014. Electronica Allah (born Timothy Elpadaro Thedford; September 19, 1976), known professionally as Jay Electronica (stylized as J A Y E L E C T R O N I C A), is an American rapper and record producer. Born and raised in New Orleans, he first received widespread attention in 2007, after the release of his mixtape, '' Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)''. ''Act One'' is the debut album of the Scottish progressive band Beggars Opera. Overview Variously classified as symphonic rock, progressive rock or proto-progressive rock, Beggars Opera's debut album has been compared to (and sometimes described as "derivative of") works by The Nice and Deep Purple MK I. It was published by Vertigo (which had at the time introduced its legendary "swirl" label) in 1970 and features cover art by the renowned surrealist photographer and artist Marcus Keef (the same that created the covers for Black Sabbath's first three albums). Darling Thieves, formerly known as I Hate Kate, is an American alternative rock band from Huntington Beach, California, United States. The band was formed in November 2004 by former Zebrahead frontman Justin Mauriello. History Justin Mauriello started I Hate Kate in 2004, while still in Zebrahead, as a creative outlet.
