Across America (album)
''Across America'' is the only live album by American singer Art Garfunkel. It is the only official live recording he has released to date. The album was recorded live over two evenings - 12 and 13 April 1996 in The Registry Hall at Ellis Island, New York. It was released to celebrate the ending of his 12-year Walk Across America. The U.K. version of the album contains the additional track "I Only Have Eyes For You". A 2-disc, 19 track version was released as a freebie in the U.K. via ''The Mail On Sunday'' newspaper as ''The Very Best of Art Garfunkel Across America'' that includes the 17 tracks listed below in a slightly different order with two additional tracks: "America" and "Cecilia". Arthur Ira Garfunkel (born November 5, 1941) is an American singer, poet, and actor. He is best known for his partnership with Paul Simon in the folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel. "I Only Have Eyes for You" is a romantic love song by composer Harry Warren and lyricist Al Dubin, written for the film ''Dames'' (1934) when Dick Powell introduced it. "I Will" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, from their 1968 double album ''The Beatles'' (also known as "the White Album"). It was written by Paul McCartney (credited to Lennon–McCartney) and features him on lead vocal, guitar, and "vocal bass". Background "I Will" was one of the songs composed by the Beatles and their associates while in Rishikesh, India. "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" is a song by folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, written by Paul Simon and included on their 1966 album '' Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme''. Its name is based on the 59th Street Bridge (formally known then as the Queensboro Bridge, later renamed the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge), which is a bridge of New York City that was completed in 1909. ''Cash Box'' called it a "sparkling, spirited lid." The studio version features Dave Brubeck Quartet members Joe Morello (drums) and Eugene Wright (double bass). Daniel Alomía Robles (3 January 1871 – 17 July 1942) was a Peruvian composer and ethnomusicologist. He is best known for composing the song " El Cóndor Pasa" in 1913 as part of a zarzuela — a musical play that alternates between spoken and sung parts — of the same name. This song was based on Andean folk songs and is possibly the best known Peruvian song, partly due to the worldwide success that the melody obtained when it was used by Simon and Garfunkel as their music for " El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could)", although that song has different lyrics. "All I Know" is a song written by American songwriter Jimmy Webb, first recorded by Art Garfunkel on his 1973 debut solo album, ''Angel Clare,'' released by Columbia Records. Instrumental backing was provided by members of the Wrecking Crew, L.A. session musicians. Garfunkel's version is the best known and highest-charting version, peaking at number nine on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number one on the Easy Listening chart for four weeks in October 1973.
