Acquainted With The Night (film)
''Acquainted with the Night: Excursions through the World after Dark'' is a Canadian television documentary film, which was broadcast by Documentary in September 2010.Ted Shaw, "Documentary seeks answers after dark". '' Windsor Star'', September 18, 2010. Adapted from the nonfiction book by Christopher Dewdney, the film explores various aspects of life at nighttime, both in human and wilderness environments. Events depicted in the film include religious ceremonies, nighttime cultural events such as Nuit Blanche, intimate moments such as parents reading stories to their children at bedtime, philosophical musings on the effects of nighttime light pollution, and visuals of nocturnal animals. The film premiered on Documentary on September 19, 2010. It subsequently received a theatrical screening at the 2010 Windsor International Film Festival. Roland Schlimme
Roland Schlimme is a Canadian film editor known in particular for his work with filmmakers Peter Mettler and Jennifer Baichwal. He's also worked on several projects with artists Phillip Barker and Laura Taler as well as filmmakers Alison Murray and Cliff Caines. He began his film editing career working with Peter Mettler in an abandoned hotel outside Zurich on the feature documentary ''Gambling, Gods and LSD'', tackling hundreds of hours of film and video to produce a fifty-two-hour assembly edit and a three-hour film. Gemini Award
The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions. Windsor International Film Festival
The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) is a cultural, charitable organization whose mission is to recognize and celebrate the art of cinema by showcasing Canadian and International films and filmmakers. When the festival first took place, it had 1,000 people in attendance and screened 20 films over the course of 2 days. Marking its growth, in 2009 the festival screened 25 films and sold 1,500 tickets. In 2011 it was attended by 8,000 people. By the time of the 9th festival in 2013, the festival screened 65 films over a 6-day period, with an attendance by 14,000 people under the guidance of executive director Vincent Georgie, who replaced the retiring Peter Coady. In 2016, the festival sold over 20,000 tickets, and was the 2nd-largest volunteer-run film festival in Canada.
