Acmanthina Acmanthes
''Acmanthina acmanthes'' is a species of moth of the family Tortricidae in tribe Euliini. It is found in Chile and Argentina. Taxonomy The species was first described in 1931 by Edward Meyrick as ''Peronea acmanthes''. It was subsequently transferred to genus ''Acleris'' in 1958, from where it was transferred in 1995 to "'' Eulia''", then in 1999 to ''Haemateulia'', and transferred once more in 2000 to its current genus, '' Acmanthina'', of which it is the namesake and type species. Distribution and habitat ''Acmanthina acmanthes'' occurs in Argentina and Chile, where it has been found in the Valparaiso Region (Quillota Province), the O'Higgins Region ( Cachapoal Province), the Maule Region (in the Talca and Curico provinces), the Bio-Bio Region ( Bio-Bio Province), the Ñuble Region, the Araucania Region (Cautín Province) and the Los Lagos Region (Llanquihue Province Llanquihue Province ( es, Provincia de Llanquihue) is one of four provinces of the Chilean region of Lo ...

''Acmanthina molinana'' is a species of moth of the family Tortricidae. It is found in Maule Region The Maule Region ( es, Región del Maule, ) is one of Chile's 16 first order administrative divisions. Its capital is Talca. The region derives its name from the Maule River which, running westward from the Andes, bisects the region and spans a ..., Chile. The wingspan is about 19 mm. The ground colour of the forewings is whitish, in some parts mixed with cream, in the postmedian and terminal areas suffused with grey. The markings are grey with black dots and strigulae (fine streaks). The hindwings are white grey, although the periphery and strigulation is brownish grey. Euliini
The Euliini are a tribe of tortrix moths. Distribution Most Euliini (nearly 98%) are found in the Neotropics and a small number is found in the Nearctic. Only '' Eulia'' is found in the Old World, since it has a Holarctic The Holarctic realm is a biogeographic realm that comprises the majority of habitats found throughout the continents in the Northern Hemisphere. It corresponds to the floristic Boreal Kingdom. It includes both the Nearctic zoogeographical reg ... distribution. Diversity The tribe includes over 650 described species in nearly 90 genera. Most species have been described in recent years. Taxonomic history The tribe was first proposed as Euliae by Kuznetsov and Stekolnikov (1977) as a subtribe of Cochylini. Powell elevated the group to tribal status in 1986. Research by Regier et al. in 2012 has provided fairly convincing evidence that Cochylini are a monophyletic lineage within a broader Euliini. If this is accepted, Cochylini should be treated as subtrib ...

Moth
Moths are a paraphyletic group of insects that includes all members of the order Lepidoptera that are not butterflies, with moths making up the vast majority of the order. There are thought to be approximately 160,000 species of moth, many of which have yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are also crepuscular and diurnal species. Differences between butterflies and moths While the butterflies form a monophyletic group, the moths, comprising the rest of the Lepidoptera, do not. Many attempts have been made to group the superfamilies of the Lepidoptera into natural groups, most of which fail because one of the two groups is not monophyletic: Microlepidoptera and Macrolepidoptera, Heterocera and Rhopalocera, Jugatae and Frenatae, Monotrysia and Ditrysia.Scoble, MJ 1995. Tortricidae
The Tortricidae are a family of moths, commonly known as tortrix moths or leafroller moths, in the order Lepidoptera. This large family has over 11,000 species described, and is the sole member of the superfamily Tortricoidea, although the genus ''Heliocosma'' is sometimes placed within this superfamily. Many of these are economically important pests. Olethreutidae is a junior synonym. The typical resting posture is with the wings folded back, producing a rather rounded profile. Notable tortricids include the codling moth and the spruce budworm, which are among the most well-studied of all insects because of their economic impact. Description Tortricid moths are generally small, with a wingspan of 3 cm or less.Hanson, Paul E. (04-11-2018). Insects and Other Arthropods of Tropical America. Cornell University Press. Many species are drab and have mottled and marbled brown colors, but some diurnal species are brightly colored and mimic other moths of the families Geometrida ...

Specific Epithet
In taxonomy, binomial nomenclature ("two-term naming system"), also called nomenclature ("two-name naming system") or binary nomenclature, is a formal system of naming species of living things by giving each a name composed of two parts, both of which use Latin grammatical forms, although they can be based on words from other languages. Such a name is called a binomial name (which may be shortened to just "binomial"), a binomen, name or a scientific name; more informally it is also historically called a Latin name. The first part of the name – the '' generic name'' – identifies the genus to which the species belongs, whereas the second part – the specific name or specific epithet – distinguishes the species within the genus. For example, modern humans belong to the genus ''Homo'' and within this genus to the species ''Homo sapiens''. ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' is likely the most widely known binomial. The ''formal'' introduction of this system of naming species is credit ...
