Ackins House
The Ackins House was a historic house in Floyd, Arkansas. Located on the east side of Arkansas Highway 31 just north of its intersection with Arkansas Highway 305, it was one of the small number of early houses to survive in White County at the time it was listed as a historic site. Description and history Built around 1880, it was a -story timber-framed single pile structure with a central hall plan. A hip-roofed porch extends across much of the main facade, supported by turned posts. Despite later alterations, it was one of the best-preserved houses of this type in the county. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 11, 1992. It has been listed as destroyed in the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program database. Floyd, Arkansas
Floyd is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in western White County, Arkansas, United States. It was first listed as a CDP in the 2020 census with a population of 377. The rural community is situated along Highways 31 and 305, in addition to the county-maintained El Paso Road. Though relatively small, the community maintains a variety of activities and institutions throughout the year, notably its annual parade and display of fireworks during Independence Day. Geography and history Lacking exact boundaries, Floyd is located within Coffey Township, in western White County. The largest part of the community today is located approximately 11 miles northwest of Beebe, Arkansas. Among the earliest settlers in the area was James Barnett and his family in 1842; nearby Lake Barnett shares the name of these pioneers. Highway 31 (AR 31, Ark. 31 and Hwy. 31) is a north–south state highway in Central Arkansas. The route of runs from U.S. Route 79B (US 79B) near Pine Bluff north across US 165, US 70, Interstate 40 (I-40) and US 64/US 67/US 167 (Future Interstate 57 ) before terminating at Highway 5 near Romance. Route description The highway begins north of Pine Bluff at US 79B and runs north to intersect Highway 15 near Sherrill. Continuing north of this junction Highway 31 passes the Tucker Unit and passes through farm fields before it enters Lonoke County. The route passes the Walls Farm Barn and Corn Crib, listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) north of Tomberlin before it has a short concurrency with US 165 through Coy (a rare officially designated exception).
