Dar Ben Achour
Dar Ben Achour ( ar, دار بن عاشور), previously known as Dar Bouattour is a palace in the medina of Tunis, built in the 17th century and located in the Pasha Street. Nowadays, it houses the library of the city of Tunis. It was occupied by Mohammed Aziz Bouattour, the Prime Minister of Tunisia from 1882 to 1907 and grandfather of Muhammad al-Tahir ibn Ashur. He bequeathed the house to the latter before it returned to Mohamed Fadhel Ben Achour. The house was acquired in 1970 by the municipality of Tunis. After a restoration, it is transformed in 1983 into a library whose mission is to collect and preserve historical documents related to the city of Tunis and Tunisians. In 1990, it also became the headquarters of the Tunisian Association of Monuments and Sites. Sana Ben Achour ( ar, سناء بن عاشور, born 1955) is a Tunisian academic, lawyer and activist, and a specialist in public law. She is a professor of public law at the Faculty of Legal, Political and Social Sciences at the University of Carthage. She is active in several feminist organisations, and has founded a women's refuge shelter. Biography Achour is the daughter of the Tunisian film director and actor Lotfi Achour and a Russian mother who is a playwright. Her older brother is a playwright, and she has a younger brother. Ahmed Achour ( ar, أحمد عاشور) was a Tunisian conductor. Biography Achour was born in Hammam Lif. After studying law, he studied music and violin at the Tunis Conservatory of Music in Tunis in 1967 where he obtained the diploma of Arabic music and the Presidential Award for violin. He continued his musical studies at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he received degrees in several specialties: harmony, counterpoint, conducting and orchestral writing. When he returned to Tunis in 1971, he joined the Tunisian Symphony Orchestra as first violin.
