The Accursed (Oates Novel)
''The Accursed'' is the fifth volume of United States writer Joyce Carol Oates's Gothic series. The novel was published by Ecco Press, Ecco on March 5, 2013. It is set in and around Princeton, New Jersey, Princeton, New Jersey in the early twentieth century, and explores a variety of supernatural themes, tracing their effect upon members of several families who reside in the area. ''The Accursed'' contains a number of historical figures used in a fictional context, among them President Woodrow Wilson, and writers Mark Twain, Jack London and Upton Sinclair and his first wife Meta. ''The Accursed'' was well-reviewed by a number of major authors, with writer Stephen King describing it in ''The New York Times Book Review'' as "the world's first postmodern Gothic novel". Anton Gill (born in 1948) is a British writer of historical fiction and nonfiction. He won the H. H. Wingate Award for non-fiction for ''The Journey Back From Hell'', an account of the lives of survivors after their liberation from Nazi concentration camps. Personal life Gill was born in Ilford, Essex, and educated at Chigwell School and Clare College, Cambridge. He started writing professionally in 1984 after fifteen years in the theatre. He lives in London with his wife, the actress Marji Campi. Other than writing, his chief interests are travel and art. Jason Aaron (born January 28, 1973) is an American comic book writer, known for his creator-owned series '' Scalped'' and '' Southern Bastards'', as well as his work on Marvel series ''Ghost Rider'', ''Wolverine'', ''PunisherMAX'', ''Thor'', and '' The Avengers''. Early life Jason Aaron was born in Jasper, Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel ''The Short-Timers'' (1979), on which the feature film '' Full Metal Jacket'' (1987) was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase comic books from spinner racks, some of which he still owned as of 2012.
