Acanthodoris Nanaimoensis
''Acanthodoris nanaimoensis'', the Nanaimo horned dorid, is a species of dorid nudibranch, a shell-less marine gastropod mollusc in the family Onchidorididae. Distribution ''A. nanaimeonsis'' was described in Jesse Island, in the lagoon near Hammond's Bay, Nanaimo, and British Columbia. Frank Mace MacFarland, an American malacologist, described the same species in Moss Beach, Montara Point, San Mateo County, in California, under the name ''Acanthodoris columbina''. It is reported from Halibut Point, Baranof Island, Alaska south to Purisima Point, Santa Barbara, California. Charles Henry O'Donoghue
Charles Henry O'Donoghue FRSE FZS (23 September 1885 – 28 November 1961) was an English zoologist who studied molluscs, a malacologist. His publications mostly deal with sea slugs and he also named a number of Bryozoans. A collection of over 700 items left to the University of Reading is known as the O'Donoghue Collection. Life He was born in Bedfordshire on 23 September 1885 the son of Charles Henry O'Donoghue. He studied zoology at the University of London. From 1918 to 1927 he was Professor of Zoology at the University of Manitoba. From 1923 he additionally acted as Director of the Marine Biological Station at Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. He also helped to establish the Prince Rupert Island and Cultus Lake research stations. In 1928 he became a Reader in natural history at the University of Edinburgh. 16S Ribosomal RNA
16 S ribosomal RNA (or 16 S rRNA) is the RNA component of the 30S subunit of a prokaryotic ribosome (SSU rRNA). It binds to the Shine-Dalgarno sequence and provides most of the SSU structure. The genes coding for it are referred to as 16S rRNA gene and are used in reconstructing phylogenies, due to the slow rates of evolution of this region of the gene. Carl Woese and George E. Fox were two of the people who pioneered the use of 16S rRNA in phylogenetics in 1977. Multiple sequences of the 16S rRNA gene can exist within a single bacterium. Pillar Point Harbor
Pillar Point Harbor is a boat harbor created by a riprap breakwater in San Mateo County, California immediately north of Half Moon Bay. It is used by both pleasure craft and small commercial fishing boats. The Ohlone people inhabited the region into much of the 19th century, and a number of recorded shipwrecks occurred in the immediate area. The modern harbor facilities were constructed between 1959 and 1982. The harbor facilities are managed by the San Mateo County Harbor District. Baranof Island is an island in the northern Alexander Archipelago in the Alaska Panhandle, in Alaska. The name Baranof was given in 1805 by Imperial Russian Navy captain Yuri Lisyansky, U. F.
