The Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI, English: "Academy of Independent Creators in Watchmaking") is a non-profit association, founded in 1985 by Svend Andersen and Vincent Calabrese under Swiss civil law. Its mission was to perpetuate the art of independent watch- and clock-making. The AHCI is based in Zürich. The AHCI is an international institution with 34 Members, 7 honorary members and 6 candidates from over 12 countries. Goal, membership and elements Goal of the association * Promote innovation and skills in watchmaking * Union of talents to get more presence in the public * Create recognition for the members The AHCI also gives the members and the candidates the chance to participate in joint exhibitions. Andreas Strehler (2015) Andreas Strehler, Papillon d'Or 18K gold, front view Andreas Strehler (born 1971 in Winterthur, Switzerland) is a Swiss watchmaker and designer of watch movements. Life Andreas Strehler did his apprenticeship at a watchmaker's shop in Frauenfeld and graduated as Watchmaker-Rhabilleur with a Swiss Federal Diploma in 1991. At the same time, he attended the Watchmakers' School in Solothurn. After graduation, he began his first job in Le Locle at Renaud & Papi SA which today belongs to Audemars Piguet as Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi SA. There, he was the first watchmaker the owners had hired. Strehler is appointed as head of prototyping and in charge of implementing the firm's technical innovations. At the end of 1994, he leaves Renaud & Papi and moves back to his native Wülflingen near Winterthur. On January first 1995, Strehler opens his own workshop. Speake-Marin is a watchmaking company specializing in expensive timepieces. It was founded in 2002 by English watchmaker Peter Speake-Marin and is based in Geneva, Switzerland. History Peter Speake-Marin was born Peter Neville Speake in 1968 in Essex, England, to an English mother and Welsh father. After graduating as a watchmaker from Hackney Technical College in London in 1985, Speake-Marin went to Switzerland to do an in-depth course in horological complications at the WOSTEP school in Neuchâtel. He then returned to London and joined Somlo Antiques, heading the antique watch restoration department. After seven years at Somlo, Speake-Marin went back to Switzerland in 1996 to develop and build high-end complications for Renaud & Papi (now Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi SA).
