Acadia
Acadia (french: link=no, Acadie) was a colony of New France in northeastern North America which included parts of what are now the Maritime provinces, the Gaspé Peninsula and Maine to the Kennebec River. During much of the 17th and early 18th centuries, Norridgewock on the Kennebec River and Castine at the end of the Penobscot River were the southernmost settlements of Acadia. The French government specified land bordering the Atlantic coast, roughly between the 40th and 46th parallels. It was eventually divided into British colonies. The population of Acadia included the various indigenous First Nations that comprised the Wabanaki Confederacy, the Acadian people and other French settlers. The first capital of Acadia was established in 1605 as Port-Royal. An English force from Virginia attacked and burned down the town in 1613, but it was later rebuilt nearby, where it remained the longest-serving capital of French Acadia until the British siege of Port Royal in 17 ... ''Acadie'' is the debut album by record producer and singer-songwriter Daniel Lanois. It was largely written and recorded in the city of New Orleans. Lanois sings on it in both French and English, sometimes even on the same track. The album was originally released in 1989 (see 1989 in music) on Opal Records and Warner Bros. Records. It was reissued in 2005 with new cover art (but otherwise identical to the original). Acadie is a provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It is located in northern Montreal and consists of parts of the Saint-Laurent and Ahuntsic-Cartierville boroughs. Acadie (Montreal Metro)
Acadie station is a Montreal Metro in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the borough of Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension (on the border with the town of Mount Royal, Quebec). It is operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and serves the Blue Line (Montreal Metro), Blue Line. It is located in the Parc-Extension. Overview It is a normal side platform station. L'Acadie Blanc
L'Acadie blanc is a white Canadian wine grape variety that is a hybrid crossing of Cascade and Seyve-Villard 14-287. The grape was created in 1953 by grape breeder Ollie A. Bradt in Niagara, Ontario at the Vineland Horticultural Research Station which is now the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. L'Acadie, Quebec
L'Acadie is a former town in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada, on the west side of the Richelieu River, across from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. It was about 30 miles (50 km) from Montreal, and about the same distance from the United States border at the head of Lake Champlain. In 2001 L'Acadie merged with neighbouring Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, along with several other neighbouring towns and villages. The area was settled in the late 18th century by Acadians returning to Canada after the forced deportation in the mid-1700s. The town was eventually named after these Acadians. L'Acadie is known by locals for having many century-old buildings and houses. The elementary school is named after Napoléon Bourassa, a sculptor, painter and artist of the 19th century. The Place d’Acadie is a public square in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, dedicated on 8 March 1984 by the mayor of Paris, Jacques Chirac, and by the president of an association called "Les Amitiés Acadiennes", Philippe Rossillon. It is located near the Mabillon metro station, where the Boulevard Saint-Germain intersects the Rue du Four and the Rue de Buci. The square takes its name from the old French North-American territory of Acadia that was once part of New France. Acadieman
Acadieman is the first Acadian superhero, created by cartoonist and musician Daniel "Dano" Leblanc. His animated series ''Acadieman'', aired from 2005 to 2009 as a community channel production on Rogers TV, and was then acquired by TV5 Québec Canada for national distribution; however, TV5 cancelled the series in advance of its premiere. Acadieman also exists in a comic book series, published by Éditions Court-Circuit, and in an animated feature film, ''Acadieman Vs. le CMA 2009''. Characters Acadieman The first Acadian superhero, he is the "official" pirate of the French language. He loves "the great indoors" and hates walking long distances.
