Academia For Equality
Academia for Equality (A4E; ) is a members' organization working to promote democratization, equality and access to higher education for all communities living in Israel. The organization numbers more than 600 Israeli members, from universities and colleges both in Israel and abroad, including students, researchers, and lecturers. The members of the organization struggle against the complicity of Israeli academia in the occupied Palestinian territories, and actively combat abusive labour relations, sexual harassment, and the silencing of critical voices in Israel and around the world. Prominent members include Joel Beinin, Uri Davis, Neve Gordon, Alon Harel, Rela Mazali, Vered Slonim-Nevo, and Oren Yiftachel. Joel Beinin
Joel Beinin (born 1948) is Donald J. McLachlan Professor of History and professor of Middle East history at Stanford University. From 2006 to 2008 he served as director of Middle East studies and professor of history at the American University in Cairo. Education Beinin was raised as a Zionist in an American Jewish family. On graduating from high school, he spent six months working on a kibbutz, where he met his future wife. He studied Arabic at university, and received his B.A. from Princeton University in 1970. He spent the summer of 1969 studying Arabic at the American University in Cairo. Intending to move to Israel permanently, he joined other members of Hashomer Hatzair in living and working at Kibbutz Lahav. Havatzalot Program
The Havatzalot Program ( he, תכנית חבצלות) is an elite program in the Israel Defense Forces, aimed at train highly skilled intelligence officers for key roles in Israel's Military Intelligence Directorate, also known as Aman. Havatzalot's cadets complete a full three-year bachelor's double major degree at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The first major is a unique compilation of different courses in Middle Eastern studies, political science and sociology. The cadets are free to choose their second major from the following options: Mathematics, Philosophy, Computer Science and Economics. In addition to academic studies, the cadets go through rigorous military and intelligence training, including visits to various IDF units, combat recruit training and officers' course. Academic Boycott Of Israel
The current campaign for an academic boycott of Israel was launched in April 2004 by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) as part of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign. ''+972 Magazine'' is a left-wing news and opinion webzine established in August 2010 by a group of four Israeli writers in Tel Aviv. Noam Sheizaf, a co-founder and the ''+972'' chief executive officer, said they wanted to express a new "and mostly young voice which would take part in the international debate regarding Israel and Palestine". They named the website in reference to the 972 international dialing code, which is shared by Israel and the Palestinian territories. The articles are written mostly in English to reach an international audience. Al-Issawiya ( ar, العيساوية, is a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem. It is located on the eastern slopes of the Mount Scopus ridge. Uri Davis
Uriel "Uri" Davis ( he, אוריאל "אורי" דייוויס , born 8 June 1943 in Jerusalem) is an academic and civil rights activist. Davis has served as Vice-Chairman of the Israeli League for Human and Civil Rights and as lecturer in Peace Studies at the University of Bradford. Davis describes himself as "a Palestinian Hebrew national of Jewish origin, anti-Zionist, registered as Muslim and a citizen of an apartheid state - the State of Israel." Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie (''Formerly known as Tulkarm Community College'') is an agricultural college located in Tulkarm, in the northern West Bank.
