Acacia Centrinervia
''Acacia centrinervia'', commonly known as hairy white wattle, is a shrub belonging to the genus ''Acacia'' and the subgenus ''Phyllodineae'' that is native to parts of eastern Australia. Description The shrub has erect or bushy habit and typically grows to a height of . It has hairy green, straight, narrowly elliptic to narrowly oblanceolate shaped phyllodes with a length of and a width of and has a prominent midrib. It flowers in the springtime between August and November producing single inflorescences that are found in the axil of the phyllodes. The spherical flower-heads with a diameter of around contain 20 bright yellow flowers. Taxonomy The species was first formally described by the botanists Joseph Maiden and William Blakely in 1927 as published in ''Journal and Proceedings of the Royal Society of New South Wales''. It was reclassified as ''Racosperma centrinervium'' by Leslie Pedley in 1987 then transferred back to the genus ''Acacia'' in 2006. It is very closely rel ...

Joseph Maiden
Joseph Henry Maiden (25 April 1859 – 16 November 1925) was a botanist who made a major contribution to knowledge of the Australian flora, especially the genus ''Eucalyptus''. This botanist is denoted by the author abbreviation when citing a botanical name. Life Joseph Maiden was born in St John's Wood in northwest London. He studied science at the University of London, but due to ill health he did not complete the course. As part of his treatment he was advised to take a long sea voyage, and so in 1880 he sailed for New South Wales. In 1881, Maiden was appointed first curator of the Technological Museum in Sydney (now the Powerhouse Museum), remaining there until 1896. While there, he published an article in 1886 describing what he called "some sixteenth century maps of Australia". These were the so-called Dieppe maps, the Rotz (1547), the Harleian or Dauphin (mid-1540s), and the Desceliers (1550), photo-lithographic reproductions of which had been published by the Briti ...

Parkes is part of the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri people, the largest language group in NSW with a country of more than 120,000 square kilometres. History The Wiradjuri people have lived on the lands of the 3 rivers, including the Lachlan River, for more than 40,000 years. The town of Parkes was part of the colonial expansion of the early 19th century, originally founded in 1853 as the settlement Currajong, named for the abundance of kurrajong trees in the local area by the settlers, but was then known as Bushman's (from the local mine named Bushman's Lead). In August 1873, Henry Parkes (later Sir Henry) visited the area and in December 1873 the town was officially renamed Parkes in his honour. (Sir Henry Parkes is recogni ...

Plants Described In 1927
Plants are predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. Historically, the plant kingdom encompassed all living things that were not animals, and included algae and fungi; however, all current definitions of Plantae exclude the fungi and some algae, as well as the prokaryotes (the archaea and bacteria). By one definition, plants form the clade Viridiplantae (Latin name for "green plants") which is sister of the Glaucophyta, and consists of the green algae and Embryophyta (land plants). The latter includes the flowering plants, conifers and other gymnosperms, ferns and their allies, hornworts, liverworts, and mosses. Most plants are multicellular organisms. Green plants obtain most of their energy from sunlight via photosynthesis by primary chloroplasts that are derived from endosymbiosis with cyanobacteria. Their chloroplasts contain chlorophylls a and b, which gives them their green color. Some plants are parasitic or mycotrophic and have los ...

Flora Of Queensland
Flora is all the plant life present in a particular region or time, generally the naturally occurring (indigenous) native plants. Sometimes bacteria and fungi are also referred to as flora, as in the terms '' gut flora'' or '' skin flora''. Etymology The word "flora" comes from the Latin name of Flora, the goddess of plants, flowers, and fertility in Roman mythology. The technical term "flora" is then derived from a metonymy of this goddess at the end of the sixteenth century. It was first used in poetry to denote the natural vegetation of an area, but soon also assumed the meaning of a work cataloguing such vegetation. Moreover, "Flora" was used to refer to the flowers of an artificial garden in the seventeenth century. The distinction between vegetation (the general appearance of a community) and flora (the taxonomic composition of a community) was first made by Jules Thurmann (1849). Prior to this, the two terms were used indiscriminately.Thurmann, J. (1849). ''Essai de ...

List Of Acacia Species
Several Cladistics, cladistic analyses have shown that the genus ''Acacia sensu lato, Acacia'' is not monophyletic. While the subg. ''Acacia'' and subg. ''Phyllodinae'' are monophyletic, subg. ''Aculeiferum'' is not. This subgenus consists of three clades. Therefore, the following list of ''Acacia'' species cannot be maintained as a single entity, and must either be split up, or broadened to include species previously not in the genus. This genus has been provisionally divided into 5 genus, genera, ''Acacia'', ''Vachellia'', ''Senegalia'', ''Acaciella'' and ''Mariosousa''. The proposed type species of ''Acacia'' is ''Acacia penninervis''. Which of these segregate genera is to retain the name ''Acacia'' has been controversial. The genus was previously typified with the African species ''Acacia scorpioides'' (L.) W.F.Wright, a synonym of ''Acacia nilotica'' (L.) Delile. Under the original typification, the name ''Acacia'' would stay with the group of species currently recognized ...

Acacia Lineata
Acacia lineata ''A.Cunn. ex G.Don'', commonly known as streaked wattle or narrow lined-leaved wattle, occurs naturally inland eastern Australia. The genus Acacia is the largest genus of flowering plants in Australia, containing around 1000 species throughout a diverse range of environments from coast to desert. The word Acacia is thought to have been derived from a Greek word for sharpen, and lineata from a Latin word meaning marked by fine parallel lines. Currently ''A. lineata'' is not considered rare or endangered. It occurs in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria where it is considered as uncommon. Description Acacia ''lineata'' grows into a bushy, low spreading shrub 0.5-2m high and 1–2.5m wide. Branchlets are round, hairy and resinous. It is a perennial. As is common in many Acacias, the leaves of ''A. lineata'' are not true leaves, but a modified leaf stem known as a phyllode. The phyllodes of A. ''lineata'' are dark green, sparsely to densely hai ...

Leslie Pedley
Leslie Pedley (19 May 1930 – 27 November 2018)IPNILeslie Pedley/ref> was an Australian botanist who specialised in the genus ''Acacia''. He is notable for bringing into use the generic name ''Racosperma'', creating a split in the genus, which required some 900 Australian species to be renamed, because the type species of ''Acacia'', ''Acacia nilotica'', now ''Vachellia nilotica'', had a different lineage from the Australian wattles. However, the International Botanical Congress (IBC), held in Melbourne in 2011, ratified its earlier decision to retain the name ''Acacia'' for the Australian species, but to rename the African species. See also: ''Acacia'' and ''Vachellia nilotica'' regarding the dispute, anAPNIfor a brief history of the name, ''Racosperma''. In 2018, Japanese botanists Hiroyoshi Ohashi and Kazuaki K. Ohashi published '' Pedleya'' (in the Fabaceae family) from New South Wales ) , nickname = , image_map = New South Wales in Australia.svg , map_caption = Lo ...
