Acacia Bay is a community on a small inlet on the western shores of Tapuaeharuru Bay, Lake Taupō in New Zealand. There are four main beach areas. It is located approximately 2 miles west of Taupō. Demographics Acacia Bay covers and had an estimated population of as of with a population density of people per km2. Acacia Bay had a population of 1,653 at the 2018 New Zealand census, an increase of 228 people (16.0%) since the 2013 census, and an increase of 420 people (34.1%) since the 2006 census. There were 660 households, comprising 825 males and 825 females, giving a sex ratio of 1.0 males per female. The median age was 50.8 years (compared with 37.4 years nationally), with 264 people (16.0%) aged under 15 years, 180 (10.9%) aged 15 to 29, 783 (47.4%) aged 30 to 64, and 420 (25.4%) aged 65 or older. Taupō
Taupō (), sometimes written Taupo, is a town on the north-eastern shore of Lake Taupō, New Zealand's largest lake, in the central North Island. It is the largest urban area of the Taupō District, and the second-largest urban area in the Waikato, Waikato region, behind Hamilton, New Zealand, Hamilton. Taupō District
Taupō District is a territorial authority district in New Zealand. It covers 6,333 km² of land, and a further 610 km² of lake area, including Lake Taupō, New Zealand's largest lake, and Lake Rotoaira. Ignimbrite
Ignimbrite is a type of volcanic rock, consisting of hardened tuff. Ignimbrites form from the deposits of pyroclastic flows, which are a hot suspension of particles and gases flowing rapidly from a volcano, driven by being denser than the surrounding atmosphere. New Zealand geologist Patrick Marshall (1869-1950) coined the term ''ignimbrite'' from the Latin ''igni-'' [fire] and ''imbri-'' [rain]. Hatepe Eruption
The Hatepe eruption, named for the Hatepe Plinian pumice tephra layer, sometimes referred to as the Taupō eruption or Horomatangi Reef Unit Y eruption, is dated to 232 CE ± 10 and was Taupō Volcano's most recent major eruption. Whakamaru Caldera
The Whakamaru Caldera which was created in a massive eruption with a VEI of 8 is approximately in size and is located in the North Island of New Zealand. It now contains active geothermal areas as well as the later Maroa Caldera. Geography The Whakamaru Caldera covers an area larger than the younger Taupō Volcano to its south and indeed the rims overlap. Rhyolite
Rhyolite ( ) is the most silica-rich of volcanic rocks. It is generally glassy or fine-grained (aphanitic) in texture, but may be porphyritic, containing larger mineral crystals (phenocrysts) in an otherwise fine-grained groundmass.
