Abul Kalam Qasmi
Abul Kalam Qasmi (20 December 1950 – 8 July 2021) was an Indian scholar, literary critic, and a poet of the Urdu language who served as the dean of the Faculty of Arts at the Aligarh Muslim University. He was the editor of ''Tehzeeb-ul-Akhlaq'' and authored books such as ''The Criticism of Poetry''. He translated E. M. Forster's ''Aspects of the Novel'' into Urdu as ''Novel ka Fun''. He was conferred with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009, and the Ghalib Award in 2013. Qasmi was an alumnus of the Darul Uloom Deoband, Jamia Millia Islamia and the Aligarh Muslim University. He served as the head professor of the Urdu department of Aligarh Muslim University between 1996 and 1999. He was considered a major pillar of Urdu criticism. Anzar Shah Kashmiri
Anzar Shah Kashmiri (1927-2008) was an Indian Islamic scholar who established the Jamia Imam Anwar Shah and co-founded the Darul Uloom Waqf in Deoband. Shah was an alumnus of the Darul Uloom Deoband. He was youngest son of Hanafi scholar Anwar Shah Kashmiri. Biography Anzar Shah Kashmiri was born at Deoband on 6 December 1927. His father Anwar Shah Kashmiri was a scholar of ahadith. He graduated from the Darul Uloom Deoband where he studied with Izaz Ali Amrohi and Hussain Ahmed Madani. In 1982, Shah co-founded the Darul Uloom Waqf, Deoband. Shamsur Rahman Faruqi
Shamsur Rahman Faruqi (30 September 1935 – 25 December 2020) was an Indian Urdu language poet, author, critic and theorist. He is known for ushering modernism to Urdu literature. He formulated fresh models of literary appreciation that combined western principles of literary criticism and subsequently applied them to Urdu literature after adapting them to address literary aesthetics native to Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. Some of his notable works included ''Sher-e-Shor Angez'' (1996), ''Ka’i Chand The Sar-e Asman'' (2006), ''The Mirror of Beauty'' (2013), and ''The Sun that Rose from the Earth'' (2014). Gopi Chand Narang
Gopi Chand Narang (11 February 1931 – 15 June 2022) was an Indian theorist, literary critic, and scholar who wrote in Urdu and English. His Urdu literary criticism incorporated a range of modern theoretical frameworks including stylistics, structuralism, post-structuralism, and Eastern poetics. Early life Narang was born in Dukki, a town in Balochistan, British Raj (now Pakistan). His father Dharam Chand Narang was a litterateur himself, and a scholar of Persian and Sanskrit, who inspired Gopi's interest in literature.
