Abul Hasnat Md. Abdul Hai
Abul Hasnat Muhammad Abdul Hai ( bn, আবুল হাসনাত মোহাম্মদ আব্দুল হাই; died 12 October 2010) was a Bangladeshis, Bangladeshi politician. He was elected a member of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) from the seats of Sunamganj-4, 227 Sunamganj-4 (Vishwambhar and Sunamganj sadar) and 228-Sunamganj-5 (Chhatak Upazila, Chhatak-Dowarabazar Upazila, Dowarabazar). He was elected a member of parliament for the first time as an independent candidate from Sylhet-4 in the 1973 Bangladeshi general election, 1973 first parliamentary elections. In the 1979 Bangladeshi general election, second parliamentary election an independent candidate in 1979, he was elected a member of the parliament in the Sylhet-5 constituency. Sunamganj-5 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh since 2008 by Mohibur Rahman Manik of the Awami League. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Chhatak and Dowarabazar upazilas. History The constituency was created in 1984 from the Sylhet-12 constituency when the former Sylhet District was split into four districts: Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj. Ahead of the 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. General elections were held in Bangladesh on 18 February 1979. The result was a victory for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which won 207 of the 300 seats. Voter turnout was 51.3%. The Awami League became the main opposition party after winning 39 seats. With almost all parties participating, the elections were deemed credible by observers. Sunamganj
Sunamganj ( bn, সুনামগঞ্জ) is a town in the Sylhet Division of northeastern Bangladesh. It is the administrative headquarters and largest town of Sunamganj District. It is located on the banks of the Surma River, approximately west-northwest of Sylhet, the divisional headquarters. Municipality The municipality was formed in 1960. Nader Bakht was elected to a second consecutive term as mayor of Sunamganj in January 2021, as an Awami League candidate. Days later, a warrant was issued for his arrest on allegations that in 2019 he supplied fake birth certificates to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. He obtained bail on 21 January. Sylhet District
Sylhet ( bn, সিলেট), located in north-east Bangladesh, is the divisional capital and one of the four districts in the Sylhet Division. History Sylhet district was established on 3 January 1782, and until 1878 it was part of Bengal Province under Dhaka Division. However, in that year, Sylhet was moved to the newly created Assam Province, and it remained as part of Assam up to 1947 (except during the administrative reorganisation of Bengal Province between 1905 and 1912). Sylhet district was divided into five subdivisions and the current Sylhet District was known as the North Sylhet subdivision.
