Abtsteinach
Abtsteinach is a municipality in the Bergstraße district in Hesse, Germany. The municipality calls itself “The Gateway to the Überwald”. Geography Location Ober-Abtsteinach lies among mountains in hilly country at 450 to 500 m above sea level. Unter-Abtsteinach and Mackenheim lie in neighbouring valleys going out from that. In Abtsteinach rises the Steinach. The community lies among the mountains Hardberg, Waldskopf, Götzenstein and Hohberg. Überwald (Bergstraße)
The Überwald is a wooded area in the southeast of Bergstraße district in Hesse, Germany, between the "Anterior" and "Hinder" Odenwald, comprising the communities of Abtsteinach, Grasellenbach and Wald-Michelbach. Wald-Michelbach is the Überwald's central community. The name was likely first used by the inhabitants of the neighbouring Weschnitz valley. The direction of view from this valley goes over the higher elevation at the Tromm, "over the forest" (''über den Wald'' in German) towards the higher-lying places Wald-Michelbach, Abtsteinach and Grasellenbach. Gorxheimertal
Gorxheimertal is a municipality in the Bergstraße district in Hesse, Germany. It is in the Odenwald and the Rhine Neckar Area. Geography Location The community lies along the length of the Grundelbach valley in the Odenwald. The nearest big town is Weinheim, and the way there also marks the division between the Odenwald and the ''Hessisches Ried'' (part of the Upper Rhine valley), as well as the boundary between Hesse and Baden-Württemberg. Through the community’s namesake Gorxheim valley – it is called the ''Gorxheimertal'' in German – flows the Grundelbach. At the eastern point of the constituent community of Trösel rise the two mountains Waldskopf and Daumberg, which also mark the Gorxheim valley’s eastern limit. Bergstraße (district)
Bergstraße (; "Mountain Road") is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the south of Hesse, Germany. It is at the northern end of the Bergstraße route. Neighboring districts are Groß-Gerau, Darmstadt-Dieburg, Odenwaldkreis, Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, the urban district Mannheim, the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis, and the urban district of Worms. ''Kreis Bergstraße'' belongs both to the Rhine Neckar Area and the Rhein-Main Region. History The district was created in 1938, when the two former districts Bensheim and Heppenheim were merged. Geography The district is located in the Odenwald mountains, with the 517m high Melibokus as the highest elevation. Geography Location The community lies in the Odenwald some 25 km north of Heidelberg and about 30 km northeast of Mannheim, as well as lying 8 km southeast of Heppenheim. Wald-Michelbach is a municipality in the Bergstraße district in Hesse, Germany. Geography Location The community lies in the Odenwald, 12 km east of Weinheim. The now disused ''Überwaldbahn'' (railway) runs through Wald-Michelbach. Birkenau in the Odenwald is a municipality in the Bergstraße district in southern Hesse, Germany. Its nickname is ''Das Dorf der Sonnenuhren'' – “The Sundial Village”. Canting Arms
Canting arms are heraldic bearings that represent the bearer's name (or, less often, some attribute or function) in a visual pun or rebus. French heralds used the term (), as they would sound out the name of the armiger. Many armorial allusions require research for elucidation because of changes in language and dialect that have occurred over the past millennium.
