Abraham Willaerts
Abraham Willaerts (c. 1603 - 18 October 1669) was a Dutch Baroque painter, mostly of marine and harbor scenes. He also painted a number of single and family portraits. Life Abraham Willaerts was born in Utrecht (city), Utrecht, the son of the painter Adam Willaerts. He trained with his father, a marine painter. Description Of Africa (1668 Book)
''Description of Africa'' (in the original archaic Dutch ''Naukeurige Beschrijvinge der Afrikaensche Gewesten'', or "Accurate Descriptions of the African Regions") is a Dutch ethnographic book published in 1668 describing Africa. The work consists of detailed description of the parts of Africa known to Europeans in the mid-seventeenth century and was written by the geographer Olfert Dapper. Book Among other things, the book contains a rare description of the Kingdom of Benin which explicitly mentions the Benin Bronzes. Dapper never visited Africa himself, but relied very heavily on records of the Dutch West India Company, especially a collection made by Samuel Bloomaerts, one of its officials. The records which Dapper used are no longer extant, however, as searches for the original reports and letters in the archives of the company, held by the Dutch National Archive, have not produced anything original. National Maritime Museum
The National Maritime Museum (NMM) is a maritime museum in Greenwich, London. It is part of Royal Museums Greenwich, a network of museums in the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Like other publicly funded national museums in the United Kingdom, it has no general admission charge; there are admission charges for most side-gallery temporary exhibitions, usually supplemented by many loaned works from other museums. Creation and official opening The museum was created by the National Maritime Museum Act 1934 under a Board of Trustees, appointed by HM Treasury. It is based on the generous donations of Sir James Caird (1864–1954). The Frans Hals Museum is a museum located in Haarlem, the Netherlands. The museum was established in 1862. In 1950, the museum was split in two locations when the collection of modern art was moved to the '' Museum De Hallen'' (since 2018 called ''Hal)''. The main collection, including its famous 17th-century Frans Hals paintings, for which the museum is named, is located in the former ''Oude Mannenhuis'' on the Groot Heiligland. Isaac Willaerts
Isaac Willaerts (1610/1620, Utrecht - 24 June 1693, Utrecht) was a Dutch painter who specialized in coastal landscapes and maritime scenes. Life and work His father was the painter, Adam Willaerts, who gave him his first art lessons. His brothers Abraham and also became painters. He worked primarily in Utrecht and was a member of the Guild of Saint Luke, where he became an apprentice in 1637, and a Master in 1666.
