Abraham H. Haddad
Abraham H. Haddad is an Israeli control theorist and the Henry and Isabelle Dever Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, United States. Haddad is known for his contributions to the theory of hybrid systems. Biography Abraham Haddad received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in 1960 and 1963, respectively. He received his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in electrical engineering in 1964 and 1966, both from Princeton University. Shortly after receiving his Ph.D., Haddad joined the faculty of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he eventually held the title of professor of electrical engineering and research professor in the Coordinated Science Laboratory. Control Theory
Control theory is a field of mathematics that deals with the control of dynamical systems in engineered processes and machines. The objective is to develop a model or algorithm governing the application of system inputs to drive the system to a desired state, while minimizing any ''delay'', ''overshoot'', or ''steady-state error'' and ensuring a level of control stability; often with the aim to achieve a degree of optimality. To do this, a controller with the requisite corrective behavior is required. This controller monitors the controlled process variable (PV), and compares it with the reference or set point (SP). The difference between actual and desired value of the process variable, called the ''error'' signal, or SP-PV error, is applied as feedback to generate a control action to bring the controlled process variable to the same value as the set point.
