Abo Abo
''Abo abo'' ( uk, Або або; en, "Either … Or") is a live album by Ukrainian rock band Vopli Vidopliassova and the band's first official release. It was released in 1992 and is taken from a concert at the Eurockéennes festival in France in 1991. The concert was recorded by an unknown Frenchman with a Maxell cassette and was given to the band. Track list The vinyl version of ''Abo abo'' has the first 7 tracks plus the first 18 seconds of Rassvet on side A and the rest of Rassvet plus tracks 8 through 14 on side B. Track 1 has never been officially released anywhere else. Tracks 2-5, 9, 11 and 12 were released on Kraina Mriy. Track 6 was released on Fayno. Tracks 10 and 13 were released on Hvyli Amura and tracks 7 and 14 were released on Buly denky. Track 8 later was recorded by Borshch as "Konforka" and released on their self-titled single "/bɔːʃ/" in 2002. In 1993, the album was reissued on vinyl. Vopli Vidopliassova
Vopli Vidopliassova ( uk, Воплі Відоплясова ), also shortened to VV (), is a Ukrainian rock band. It was created in 1986 in Kyiv, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union (present-day Ukraine). The leader of the band is singer Oleh Skrypka. Vopli Vidopliasova are the founders of Ukrainian rock-n-roll style and neo-ethnic rock. They first sang Ukrainian rock outside Ukraine. Their influences include folk, patriotic songs, punk, hard rock, heavy metal and, most recently, electronic music. Their song ''Den Narodzhennia'' is featured in the Russian crime films ''Brother (1997 film), Brother'' and ''Brother 2'' by director Aleksei Balabanov. Band member Oleh Skrypka has also produced several solo albums. In 2009, their record label, Kraina Mriy, released all their albums for free as a Christmas present. Belfort (; archaic german: Beffert/Beffort) is a city in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in Northeastern France, situated between Lyon and Strasbourg, approximately from the France–Switzerland border. Folk Rock
Folk rock is a hybrid music genre that combines the elements of folk and rock music, which arose in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom in the mid-1960s. In the U.S., folk rock emerged from the folk music revival. Kraina Mriy
''Kraina Mriy'' ( uk, Країна Мрій, en, The Land of Dreams) is the debut studio album by Vopli Vidopliassova. It was originally released in 1994 on BSA Records. When Vopli Vidopliassova's "French period" (1990-1996) ended, the band returned to Ukraine and had the album remixed and re-released in 1997. Track lists 1997 remix The track list was reordered. "Znovu zima" and "Mussa" were replaced with a French version of "Tantsi" entitled "Dansez". The "Dobryy den..." intro was moved from "Karmen" to "Shalena zirka" and the "Ty byla..." text was moved from the end of "Ty ushel" to the beginning. Also, the version of "Ty ushel" on this is an extended version, because the song is sung in French as well as Russian, and the "Ty byla" text is a different recorded version. The news audio was removed from "Tantsi". Also, in "Kraina mriy", the song, after the short intro text, starts to build up straight away instead of fading in. The cowbell was removed from "Kolys". Eurockéennes
The Eurockéennes de Belfort (; en, Eurockeans of Belfort) are one of France's largest rock music, rock music festivals. The Eurockéennes, a play on words involving ''rock'' (rock music) and ''européennes'' (Europeans), is a festival based in a nature reserve beside Lac de Malsaucy Belfort. About History 1989 marked the first time round for the festival, when it went under the name ''Le Ballon - Territoire de musiques'', named after the nearby Ballon d'Alsace. The festival was organised to take place on the Ballon d'Alsace, but the peninsula on the Malsaucy lake was chosen in the end, because it was easier to link by car, bus and even train. It was the brainchild of the Conseil général of the Territoire de Belfort, who wanted to dynamise their ''département in France, département'' with a big cultural event for its youths. Borshch (band)
Borscht () is a sour soup common in Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. In English, the word "borscht" is most often associated with the soup's variant of Ukrainian origin, made with red beetroots as one of the main ingredients, which give the dish its distinctive red color. The same name, however, is also used for a wide selection of sour-tasting soups without beetroots, such as sorrel-based green borscht, rye-based white borscht, and cabbage borscht. Borscht derives from an ancient soup originally cooked from pickled stems, leaves and umbels of common hogweed (''Heracleum sphondylium''), a herbaceous plant growing in damp meadows, which lent the dish its Slavic name. With time, it evolved into a diverse array of tart soups, among which the Ukrainian beet-based red borscht has become the most popular.
