Abiodun Akinsowon
Christiana Abiodun Emanuel, born Abiodun Akinsowon (1907–1994), was the co-founder of the Cherubim and Seraphim, an Aladura Christian denomination. After a schism in the Church, she founded and led the Cherubim and Seraphim Society. Personal life Abiodun Akinsowon was born in 1907 to a Saro family. The daughter of a pastor, she was baptised into the Anglican Church in Lagos, Nigeria, where she attended elementary school. In 1920, she left school to join her aunt as a trader. In 1942, she married George Orisanya Emanuel, a civil servant working in Lagos City Council. Founding the Cherubim and Seraphim In 1925, while watching a Catholic Corpus Christi procession, Emanuel reportedly fell into a lengthy trance. She awoke from her coma after the healer Moses Orimolade arrived to pray for her. Waking, Emanuel claimed she had been visited by angels who had taken her to heaven. Aladura
The term "Aladura" means "praying person" in Yoruba. Aladura is a classification of indigenous churches in south-western Nigeria that started in the early 20th century. These churches believe in the efficacy of prayers and practical guidance by God through the Holy Spirit in all its programs. The main Aladura churches can be distinguished by the distinct apostolic way, the church founders were called directly by Christ himself. Saro People
The Saro, or Nigerian Creoles of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, were Yoruba Liberated Africans emancipated and initially resettled in Freetown, Sierra Leone by the Royal Navy, which, with the West Africa Squadron, enforced the abolition of the international slave trade after the British Parliament passed the Slave Trade Act 1807. Those freedmen who migrated back to Nigeria from Sierra Leone, over several generations starting from the 1830s, became known locally as ''Saro'' ''(elided form of Sierra Leone, from the Yoruba sàró''). Consequently, the Saro are culturally descended from Sierra Leone Creoles, with ancestral roots to the Yoruba people of Nigeria. Eternal Sacred Order Of Cherubim And Seraphim
The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, also known as the esocs, is a church denomination in Nigeria that was founded by Moses Orimolade Tunolase in 1925. Orimolade received considerable media attention when he healed a girl, Christina Abiodun Akinsowon, from a long-term trance in which she could neither speak nor hear. After the healing event, Orimolade Tunolase and Abiodun Akinsowon teamed up, as father and adopted daughter, and offered their services to heal and pray for people. The Cherubim and Seraphim group have dreams and visions that facilitate the connection of God and humanity. In 1925, Jesus Christ had directed them to name their sect '' seraphim'', after an angel.
