Abigail Borah
Abigail Borah is an American environmental activist who interrupted Todd Stern at the 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference and who co-founded ''Race to Replace Vermont Yankee''. Early life and education Borah grew up near Princeton and attended Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart. Borah studied at Middlebury College where she majored in Conservation Biology. While studying, she joined SustainUS, who sent her to the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun (also known as COP-16.) Activism and career In 2011, when she was 21 years old, Borah interrupted US negotiator Todd Stern at the 2011 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-17) in Durban to say:“I am speaking on behalf of the United States of America because my negotiators cannot. Todd Stern
Todd D. Stern (born May 4, 1951) was the United States Special Envoy for Climate Change, and was the United States' chief negotiator at the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. Education Stern graduated from Dartmouth College in 1973, and earned a J.D. at Harvard Law School. Career Stern served as the United States Special Envoy for Climate Change, leading talks at the United Nations climate change conferences and smaller sessions, appointed by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on January 26, 2009. He was the United States' chief negotiator at the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant
Vermont Yankee was an electricity generating nuclear power plant, located in the town of Vernon, Vermont, in the northeastern United States. It generated 620 megawatts (MWe) of electricity at full power. The plant was a boiling water reactor (BWR), designed by General Electric. It operated from 1972 until December 29, 2014, when its owner Entergy shut down the plant. In 2008, the plant provided 71.8% of all electricity generated within Vermont, amounting to 35% of Vermont's electricity consumption. The plant is on the Connecticut River, upstream of the Vernon, Vermont Hydroelectric Dam and used the reservoir pool for its cooling water. Nicole Hernández Hammer ( Hernández Estrada) is a Guatemalan-American climate scientist and activist studying sea level rise and the disproportionate impacts of climate change on communities of color.
