Abia State
Abia State ( ig, Ȯha Abia) is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, it is bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Enugu, and Ebonyi, Imo State to the west, Cross River State to the east, Akwa Ibom State to the southeast, and Rivers State to the south. It takes its name from the acronym for four of the state's most populated regions: Aba, Bende, Isuikwuato, and Afikpo. The state capital is Umuahia while the largest city and commercial centre is Aba. Abia is the 32nd largest in area and 27th most populous with an estimated population of over 3,720,000 as of 2016. Geographically, the state is divided between the Niger Delta swamp forests in the far south and the drier Cross–Niger transition forests with some savanna in the rest of the State. Abia State University
Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) is a Nigerian public university. It is one of the state owned universities in Nigeria. These state academic institutions were created to expand admissions and bring professional skills, expertise and modern research facilities close to the city and rural dwellers, and have helped talented students to obtain higher education. The inception of the university was in 1981 in the former Imo State under the name of Imo State University, Etiti. The university was established by Sam Mbakwe when he was governor of old Imo State. Abia is a town in Enugu State, Nigeria. History Abia is a town in southern part of Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. Abia is in the Umu-Neke clan, other towns that make up the clan are Udi, Amokwe, Agbudu, Obinagu, Umuabi, Umuaga, and Nachi. Marriage system The institution of marriage in Abia is generally the same as in other Igbo communities in the Eastern part of Nigeria. Marriage is contracted with the consent and participation of extended family members known as Umunna. Abia (mythology)
In Greek mythology, Abia (Ancient Greek: Ἀβία) was the nursemaid of Hyllus, (in some translations the child she nurses is named Glenus) son of Heracles and Deianira, who settled there after the failed attempt of Heracles' son Hyllus to return to the Peloponnesus. Mythology Abia was honored by the Heraclid Cresphontes for having built a temple to Heracles in Ira, by changing of the name of the town of Ira to Abia. Abia was one of the seven cities promised by Agamemnon to Achilles in his attempt to convince him to rejoin the Trojan War. At a later time, Abia would join the Achaean League. Avia ( el, Αβία, grc, ἡ Ἀβία) is a village and a former municipality in Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality West Mani, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 179.828 km2.
