Abdul Razzaq Al-Issa
Abdul Razzaq Abdul Jalel al-Issa (Arabic:عبد الرزاق العيسى) (born 1949) is an Iraqi politician who served in different cabinet posts. He is currently Iraq's Minister of Higher Education. Early life and education al-Issa was born in 1949 in Najaf, Iraq. He studied chemistry at the University of Basra in 1971 and received his doctorate from University of Liverpool in 1979. He served as president of the University of Kufa from 2006 until 2011 and in 2015 became a consultant to the Minister of Higher Education "Hussain al-Shahristani". The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) is the Iraq government agency responsible for higher education and scientific research. Shia Islam in Iraq ( ar, الشيعة في العراق) has a history going back to the times of Ali ibn Abi Talib, the first imam of Shia Islam and fourth caliph of Sunni Islam who moved the capital of the early caliphate from Medina to Kufa (or Najaf) two decades after the death of Muhammad. Today, Shia Muslims make up the majority of the Iraqi population. Iraq is the location of the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, pilgrimage sites for millions of Shia Muslims. Haider Jawad Kadhim al-Abadi ( ar, حيدر جواد كاظم العبادي; born 25 April 1952) is an Iraqi politician who was Prime Minister of Iraq from September 2014 until October 2018. Previously he served as Minister of Communication from 2003 to 2004, in the first government after Saddam Hussein was deposed. He was designated as Prime Minister by President Fuad Masum on 11 August 2014 to succeed Nouri al-Maliki and was approved by the Iraqi parliament on 8 September 2014. Al-Abadi was included in ''Time'' magazine's ''100 Most Influential People of 2018.'' He left the office of Prime Minister in 2018, following rising domestic discontent and widespread violent protests.
