Abdou Mbow (born January 9, 1976, in Thies) is a Senegalese politician. He is the fourth vice president of the Senegalese National Assembly. Thiès Region
Thiès is a region of western Senegal. The capital is also called Thiès. Geography Thiès has two coastlines, one in the north with the Grande Côte housing the Niayes vegetable market, one to the south with the Petite Côte, one of the tourist areas of Senegal. Principally the main passageway between the peninsula and the rest of the country, the region of Thiès has received a communication route connected to the first rail line and new road infrastructure. Thiès is relatively small, yet it is the most populous region after Dakar, with a population of 2,709,112 inhabitants at the end 2007. The coastal communities are dependent on fishing, growing crops, and coastal tourism for subsistence. The interior of the region was the peanut basin. Phosphates are also mined there. National Assembly (Senegal)
The National Assembly (french: Assemblée nationale) is the unicameral legislature of Senegal. The Assembly was previously part of a bicameral legislature from 1999 to 2001 and from 2007 to 2012, with the indirectly elected Senate being the upper house. The Senate was abolished for a second time in September 2012. The current National Assembly The current National Assembly, formed following elections in July 2017, comprises 165 elected members who serve five-year terms. The electoral system is a mixed member majoritarian (MMM) system; 90 deputies are elected in 35 single and multi-member districts (departments) by simple majority (plurality) party block vote (PBV, winning party list takes all seats in the district) and 60 seats are filled proportionally based on the national distribution of votes. Alliance For The Republic (Senegal)
The Alliance for the Republic–Yakaar (french: Alliance pour la république, APR) is a political party in Senegal. It was formed by former Prime Minister and current president Macky Sall after his departure from the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) in December 2008. Macky Sall was also APR's candidate in the 2012 presidential election in which he defeated incumbent President Abdoulaye Wade. APR was joined by several former members of the PDS. It is the dominant partner in the United in Hope coalition, which has held a majority in the National Assembly until 25 September 2022 when Aminata Touré announced she would no longer sit with the majority in the Assembly, accusing President Sall of promoting Amadou Mame Diop as president of the National Assembly due to "familial ties".
