Abdon is an upland village and former Civil parishes in England, civil parish, now in the parish of Abdon and Heath, in the Clee Hills area of England, English county of Shropshire. History The name Abdon derives from 'Ab(b)a's estate' (Old English personal name ''Ab(b)a'' + ''tūn''). It was called ''Abetune'' in the Domesday Book of 1086, when it comprised nine households, and was recorded as ''Ab(b)eton'' from about 1200 to 1504, ''Abbedon'' in 1301 and ''Abdon'' from 1503. Abdon (Judges)
Abdon (Hebrew: עַבְדּוֹן ''‘Aḇdōn'', "servile" or "service"), was the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, and was the eleventh Judge of Israel mentioned in the Book of Judges (). He was a member of the tribe of Ephraim, and in the biblical account was credited with having forty sons and thirty grandsons. He restored order in the central area of Israel "after the disastrous feud with Jephtha and the Gileadites". He judged Israel for eight years. He was buried on Ephraimite land, in Pirathon, in the hill-country of the Amalekites. Veneration Abdon is venerated in Catholic Church as a saint. His feast day is 1 September. Achbor ( ''ʿAḵbōr'') is a name that means "gnawing" and is, by extension, used as the word for "mouse". There are at least two persons by this name in the Hebrew Bible. Abdon Ignatius Perera JP, CBE (30 July 1888 - 5 December 1955) was the first Ceylonese Postmaster General and Director of Telecommunications, serving in the position from 1947 to 1951. Abdon Ignatius Perera was born 30 July 1888 in Colombo to Don Nicholas Perera and Clara née Peiris. Perera was educated at St. Benedict's College, Colombo (1894-1903), where he passed the Cambridge Junior Examination. He passed the first class examination in Telegraphy and the second class examination in the Telephony at the London City and Guilds College. He then joined the Department of Archaeology as a temporary clerk in 1905 and joined the Department of Posts and Telecommunications on 1 February 1906 as a Second Class Post Master in the Department of Posts and Telecommunications. Abdón Porte (1893 – 5 March 1918) was a Uruguayan footballer who played as defensive midfielder. Nicknamed ''El Indio'' he won many titles with his club Nacional, and also a Copa América with the Uruguay national team. Abdón Prats Bastidas (born 7 December 1992), known simply as Abdón, is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for RCD Mallorca as a forward. Club career Born in Artà, Balearic Islands, and a product of local RCD Mallorca's youth system, Abdón made his debut as a senior at the age of only 17, going on to spend several seasons in the Segunda División B with the reserves.
