Abdolnaser Hemmati
Abdolnaser Hemmati ( fa, عبدالناصر همتی, born 9 April 1956) is an Iranian academic, politician and economist who served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran from 2018 to 2021. He was previously vice president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (1989–1994), and governor of the Central Insurance of Iran (1994–2006; 2016–2018). Governor Of The Central Bank Of Iran
Governor of the Central Bank of Iran () is the highest administrative authority of the Central Bank of Iran, making decisions concerning all such current affairs of the bank. Presently, the President of Iran, President appoints the governor upon the recommendation of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance (Iran), Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, who must be verified by the CBI's general assembly. Unlike many countries, the governor of central bank is not mandated to decide on the monetary policy in Iran by himself, but he is head of the body with that responsibility, The Currency and Credit Council, an organ within the central bank but controlled by the government. The governor is assisted by an executive board comprising, in addition to himself as the chairman, the deputy governor, vice-governors, and the secretary-general of the Currency and Credit Council. 2021 Iranian Presidential Election
Presidential elections were held in Iran on 18 June 2021, the thirteenth since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979. Ebrahim Raisi, the then Chief Justice of Iran, was declared the winner in a highly controversial election. The election began with the mass disqualification of popular candidates by the Guardian Council, and broke records of the lowest turnout in Iranian electoral history (around 49%), as well as had the highest share of protest blank, invalid and lost votes (around 13%) despite a declaration by the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, considering protest voting religiously forbidden (haraam) as it would "weaken the regime."
