Abdelouafi Laftit
Abdelouafi Laftit (; born 29 September 1967) is a Moroccan politician, currently serving as Minister of the Interior since 5 April 2017. Biography Laftit was born in Tafersit. He graduated from the École Polytechnique in 1989, and the École des ponts ParisTech in 1991. He is also married, with four children. Political career Laftit previously worked in several positions in the regional and port sectors before he was appointed Wali (governor) of the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer region by King Mohammed VI on 24 January 2014, as well as of the Rabat prefecture. He continued his role as Wali when the region was reorganized as Rabat-Salé-Kénitra in 2015. In April 2017, Laftit was appointed by Mohammed VI as Minister of the Interior in the government of Saadeddine Othmani. He remained in his position along with the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the cabinet of Aziz Akhannouch. The Ministry of Interior of Morocco is a department of the Government of Morocco in charge of the country's interior affairs. Headquarters in Rabat The headquarters of the ministry in Rabat is the former seat of the Resident-general in the French protectorate in Morocco. It is located on a prominent position to the south of the walled city of Rabat, east of the Dar al-Makhzen royal palace. Hubert Lyautey, the first Resident-General, chose this hilltop site for his residence, overlooking the ancient site of Chellah which lies immediately to its south. The complex was designed from 1916 by French architect Albert Laprade, who resided in Morocco from 1917 to 1919, and completed in 1924. The Moroccan Association for Human Rights ( ar, الجمعية المغربية لحقوق الإنسان, french: Association marocaine des droits humains, abbreviated AMDH) is one of the biggest Moroccan human rights non-governmental organizations. It was founded on June 24, 1979, in Rabat to work for the preservation of human dignity and the respect, protection, defense and promotion of human rights in Morocco and Western Sahara. It uses different means to achieve its objectives such as the publication of a monthly newspaper, sit-ins and the holding of conferences. The AMDH considers equally crucial building partnerships with internal and external organizations and networks in order to be stronger in the fight for human rights.
