Abbas Nasir
Abbas Nasir is Pakistani journalist and former editor of Pakistan's English language daily ''DAWN''. Previously he was the head of the BBC Urdu Service, where he has been appointed as Executive Editor for the Asia and the Pacific Region at BBC World Service. Nasir began his journalism career in the early 1980s at the daily newspapers ''Dawn'' and ''Muslim''. He later joined the monthly current affairs magazine ''Herald''. In May 1994 he joined the BBC Urdu Service while also serving as the chief political correspondent with the English daily ''The News International''. Later he became head of the BBC Urdu service and helped found their website in October 1999. While with the BBC, he also worked on as an analyst on their '' The World Today'' programme. ''Dawn'' is a Pakistani English-language newspaper that was launched in British India in 1941. It is the largest English newspaper in Pakistan, and also serves as the country's newspaper of record. ''Dawn'' is the flagship publication of the Dawn Media Group, which also owns local radio station ''CityFM89'' as well as the marketing and media magazine ''Aurora''. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Pakistan's founding father, launched the newspaper in Delhi on 26 October 1941, with the goal of establishing it as a mouthpiece for the All-India Muslim League. The first issue was printed at Latifi Press on 12 October 1942. The BBC World Service is an international broadcasting, international broadcaster owned and operated by the BBC, with funding from the Government of the United Kingdom, British Government through the Foreign Secretary, Foreign Secretary's office. It is the world's largest external broadcaster in terms of reception area, language selection and audience reach. ''The Herald'' has been responsible for producing many large and breaking stories since it started. It was renamed from the ''Illustrated Weekly of Pakistan'' in January 1970, which was published from 1948–1969. Zaffar Abbas is a Pakistani journalist, who has been the editor of Pakistan's English-language daily ''Dawn (newspaper), DAWN'', since October 2010. Career Abbas started his journalism career in 1981 with ''The Star (Pakistan), The Star'' after joining the Dawn Media Group. Between 1984 and 1992, in addition to ''The Star'', he also reported for the Khaleej Times as a correspondent. In 1988, he joined ''Herald (Pakistan), The Herald'' as senior reporter and went on to become its special correspondent in 1992 and then as its Bureau Chief. He has also worked for BBC as a correspondent in Islamabad and Karachi for about 16 years. Abbas joined ''Dawn (newspaper), DAWN'' as the resident editor for its Islamabad edition in 2006. Dawn is the time that marks the beginning of twilight before sunrise. It is recognized by the appearance of indirect sunlight being scattered in Earth's atmosphere, when the centre of the Sun's disc has reached 18° below the observer's horizon.
