Abbas Fahdel
Abbas Fadhel (Arabic عباس فاضل) is an Iraqi-French film director, screenwriter and film critic, born in Babylon, Iraq. Based in France since the age of 18 years, he studied cinema at the Sorbonne University until Ph.D. In January 2002, he returned to Iraq with a French passport and filmed a documentary film, '' Back to Babylon (film)'', in which he asked himself: "''What have my childhood friends become? How have their lives changed? What would my life have been like if I hadn't chosen to build my destiny elsewhere?''" The country's dramatic situation is the background of this introspective investigation. The cinema of Iraq went through a downturn under Saddam Hussein's regime. The development of film and film-going in Iraq reflects the drastic historical shifts that Iraq has experienced in the 20th century. The Iraq War which began in 2003 had an influence on many films being produced. History While Iraq's first film projection took place in 1909, cinema was not truly regarded as a cultural activity or pastime until the 1920s. Vesoul International Film Festival Of Asian Cinema
The Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema (French: Festival international des cinémas d'Asie) is an annual special-interest film festival focusing on the cinemas of Asia. The festival is held annually in Vesoul, France. It was created in 1995 by Martine and Jean-Marc Thérouanne who have been codirecting the festival since then. The highest award of the festival is the Golden Cyclo Award. Other awards include the Special Langues "O" Award, given by the French National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations and the Emile Guimet Award by the Friends Association of National Museum of Asian Arts-Guimet at the festival. In the 17th edition of the festival, which attracted an audience of 28,700, three awards were given to the Chinese film "Addicted to Love" by director Liu Hao. NETPAC
The Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) is a worldwide organization of 29 member countries. It was created as the result of a conference on Asian cinema organized by Cinemaya, the Asian Film Quarterly, in New Delhi in 1990 at the instance and with the support of UNESCO, Paris. The Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival is a documentary film festival held biennially in Yamagata, Japan ( ). It was first held in October 1989, which makes it one of the longest running documentary film festivals in the world and the most distinguished such festival in Asia.
