Abbas Eqbal Ashtiani
Abbas Eqbal Ashtiani ( fa, عباس اقبال آشتیانی; 1896-97 – February 10, 1956) was an Iranian literary scholar, historian, translator, and man of letters. Eqbal Ashtiani was born in Ashtian. He was educated at Dar ul-Funun (House of Sciences) in Tehran and University of Paris. In 1944 Eqbal founded the monthly periodical ''Yādgār''. Ashtian
Ashtian ( fa, آشتيان, also Romanized as Āshtīān and Ashtīyan) is a city and capital of Ashtian County, Markazi Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 8,324, in 2,597 families. Ashtian lies in a fertile agricultural district, watered by surface streams and qanats. The region is a famous one for carpet-weaving. Among its historical monuments is the remains of a fortress and a Safavid era caravanserai. Several learned men and religious figures have stemmed from Ashtian. The Mostowfi family of Ashtian occupied several roles within the Qajar and Pahlavi administrative system. Abbas Eqbal Ashtiani, Abbās Eqbāl Āshtiyāni (), a celebrated Iranian literary figure, and Abdolkarim Gharib, founder of geology, geological research in Iran, were born in Ashtian. Iraj Afshar ( fa, ایرج افشار; 8 October 1925 – 9 March 2011) was a bibliographer, historian, scholar, professor, and an iconic figure in the field of Persian studies. Afshar was a professor emeritus of the University of Tehran. He was a consulting editor of ''Encyclopædia Iranica'' at Columbia University. Biography Iraj Afshar was born on 8 October 1925 in Tehran, Iran to parents Nosrat Barazandeh and . He attended Zoroastrian Shāpour Secondary School and Firouz-Bahrām High School in Tajrish, Tehran. In 1945, he married Shayesteh Afsharieh and together they had four sons. Iraj Afshar recorded the monuments of Yazd in his three-volume "yādegār-hāye Yazd (Monuments of Yazd)".
