Aalst (; french: Alost, ; Brabantian dialect, Brabantian: ''Oilsjt'') is a City status in Belgium, city and Municipalities in Belgium, municipality on the Dender River, northwest from Brussels in the Flemish Region, Flemish Provinces of Belgium, province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the city of Aalst itself and the villages of Baardegem, Erembodegem, Gijzegem, Herdersem, Hofstade, Meldert, Moorsel and Nieuwerkerken. Aalst is crossed by the Molenbeek-Ter Erpenbeek in Aalst and Hofstade. The current mayor of Aalst is Christoph D'Haese, from the Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie, New-Flemish Alliance party. Aalst, Buren
Aalst is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Buren, and lies about 10 km southwest of Wageningen. Between 1811 and 1998, Aalst belonged to the municipality of Lienden. In the middle of the 19th century, the population of Aalst was 150; there was a nice mansion called "Kolvenschoten" located here. It was first mentioned around 1400 as Aelst. The etymology is unclear. The postal authorities have placed it under Lienden Lienden is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. Aalst, North Brabant
Aalst is a village located 6 km south of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on the Tongelreep stream and the road to Valkenswaard. It was an independent municipality until 1923, when it merged with the municipality of Waalre. Aalst experienced rapid growth during the 1970s and 1980s as housing estates were built in the Ekenrooi area, which served as an overflow area for Eindhoven. Despite this development the area remains very green and pleasant with large stretches of managed forest and heathland. Notable places include 'De hut van Mie Pils', a cafe and restaurant located in the wooded area in the east of the municipality. In September 1944, Aalst saw the British XXX Corps pass along the main road from Valkenswaard to Eindhoven as part of Operation Market Garden. Aalst, Zaltbommel
Aalst ːɫstis a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Zaltbommel, and lies about 12 km southeast of Gorinchem. For a short while, Aalst was a separate municipality. In 1818, it became a part of the municipality of Poederoijen. According to the historian Van der Aa, there used to be an old castle here, but only a few remnants were left in the middle of the 19th century. It was first mentioned in 850 as "Halosta". Baldericus donated some pieces of land to the Benedictine monastery called Laurisheim. The etymology is unclear. ''Aalst'' is a play by the Belgian stage director Pol Heyvaert. Based on real-life events that took place in the town of Aalst in 1999, the play recounts the murder of two children by their parents. It was originally performed in 2005 by the Ghent-based theatre company Victoria. Since then, it has toured extensively in Europe and in Canada. The background In January 1999, in the suburban Belgian town of Aalst, Luc de Winne and Maggie Strobbe checked into a hotel room with their two children, a boy aged seven and an infant girl of three months. They killed the daughter by suffocating her with a pillow, and the son by stabbing him with a pair of scissors. They were subsequently arrested, tried and sentenced to life imprisonment. Evert van Aelst, sometimes known as Everard Aalst, (1602 in Delft – 19 February 1657 in Delft) was a Dutch still life painter. Van Aelst was the uncle and teacher of Willem van Aelst. Both were famous for their still life paintings of game, fish, vases, etc. He was influenced by Pieter Claesz.
