''Aach'' (variants ''Ach'', ''Ache''; ''Aa'') is a widespread Upper German hydronym, from an Old High German ''aha'' (Proto-Germanic '' *ahwō'') "running water" (ultimately from PIE '' *hakʷā-'' "(moving) water"). The word has also been reduced to a frequent suffix ''-ach'' in Alemannic and Austro-Bavarian toponymy. The word is cognate with Old English '' ǣ'' (reflected in English placenames as ''-ea'', also Yeo, Eau), Old Frisian ''ē'', Old Saxon ''aha'', Low Franconian '' Aa'', Old Norse ''á'', Gothic ''aƕa'', all meaning "river; running water". The Old High German contraction from ''-aha'' to ''-aa'', ''-â'' in compound hydronyms present from an early time (early 9th century). Au is a town in the Bregenz Forest in Vorarlberg (Austria). Geography The town belongs to the Bregenz Forest, is part of the district of Bregenz, and lies in the '' Upper Bregenz Forst.'' 40 percent of its 45 km² area is covered with forest, 34.4% of the area is used as alpine pasture (''Almwirtschaft'') and for other forms of alpine agriculture. Aue, Saxony
Aue () is a small town in Germany at the outlet of the river Schwarzwasser into the river Zwickauer Mulde in the Ore Mountains, and has roughly 16,000 inhabitants. It was merged into the new town Aue-Bad Schlema in January 2019. Aue was the administrative seat of the former district of Aue-Schwarzenberg in Saxony, and is part of the Erzgebirgskreis since August 2008. The Aue is a river in northern Germany in the district of Stade in Lower Saxony. It has a length of about . Course The Aue rises in the vicinity of near Ahlerstedt and flows through the towns and villages of: * Ahrensmoor-West, * Ahrenswohlde, * Bokel, * Klethen, * Oersdorf, * Kakerbeck, * Bargstedt/Klein Hollenbeck, * Harsefeld, * Issendorf and * Bliedersdorf to Horneburg, where it changes its name and from there on flows as the Lühe for a further to the River Elbe. The Große Aue (in its upper reaches known as the ''Aue'' and then also the ''Neuer Mühlenbach'' or ''Mühlbach'') is an , southwestern, left tributary of the River Weser in northern North Rhine-Westphalia and central Lower Saxony in Germany. Course The Große Aue rises at a height of as the ''Aue'' on the southern side of the Wiehen Hills in the village of Dono in the parish of Rödinghausen in North Rhine-Westphalia. After one and a half kilometres it turns north and from its confluence with the Nordbach, which joins it from the west at Schwenningdorf, is known as the ''Große Aue''. It crosses a water gap in the Wiehen Hills, losing 40 metres of height and powering two mills, so that in the section through the Wiehen crest it has been named the ''Neuer Mühlbach'' ("New Mill Stream") after the ''Neue Mühle'' ("New Mill") at Schwenningdorf. Reichenau is a municipality in the district of Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg in Germany. It is located partly on Reichenau Island with its famous abbey and on the northern shore of the ''Untersee'' section of Lake Constance. The island has historically been the center of the community.
