Aaby, or Ã…by, is a suburban area of Aarhus in Denmark. Located 4 km from the city centre of Aarhus, Ã…by was originally an old village, but is now an integrated a part of Ã…byhøj, that sprawled around it. To distinguish Ã…by from Ã…byhøj, the village area is often referred to as ''Gammel Ã…by'' (lit.:Old Ã…by). Ã…by is situated at a bend of the Aarhus River and there is access to the river and the pathway of Brabrandstien from here. Etymology The name Ã…by translates literally as ''river-town'' in modern Danish and it also derives from the Old Norse for "village on a river" (Old Norse ''á'', river, and ''býr'', village). Nørre Aaby is a town in central Denmark, located in Middelfart Municipality on the island of Funen. Until ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007) it was the site of the municipal council of the now former Nørre Aaby Municipality.
