A Western Demon
''A Western Demon'' is a 1922 American silent film, silent Western (genre), Western film directed by Bob McKenzie (actor), Robert McKenzie. The film stars William Fairbanks, Marilyn Mills, and Monte Montague. The film was restored by The Film Foundation and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Film Archive. Plot Ned Underwood rescues a drowning child and in doing so, catches the eye of Rose Dale. Rose finds that Ned is a passenger on the same train headed west. In speaking with Ned, Rose tells him of rustling happening on her ranch, after which Ned offers to go undercover as a dishwasher at the ranch to find out about the rustlers. Joe Dalton, the ranch foreman, is trying to gain the ranch for himself by scaring Rose away. Bob McKenzie (actor)
Robert McKenzie (September 22, 1880 – July 8, 1949) was an Irish-born American film actor. He appeared in more than 310 films between 1915 and 1946. McKenzie was married to the actress Eva McKenzie until his death from a heart attack in 1949. The two appeared as husband and wife in The Three Stooges' film ''The Yoke's on Me''. He and Eva were the parents of actress daughters Fay McKenzie, Ida Mae McKenzie and Ella McKenzie. William Fairbanks
William Fairbanks (born Carl Ullman; May 24, 1894 – April 1, 1945) was an American actor. He appeared in over 65 silent era films between 1916 and 1928. Biography Fairbanks was born Carl Ullman in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Charles and Emma E. Ullman. His father was born in Bavaria, Germany, emigrated to the U.S. and became a naturalized citizen, and his mother was born in Illinois. His father was a dry goods merchant and his mother a saleslady at their store. At age 16, Carl worked as a clerk in a stationery store in St. Louis. He attended the St. Louis Military Academy. His first film role was as Capt. Pierre Thierry in the war drama ''Somewhere in France'' (1916) starring Louise Glaum and Howard C. Hickman. Marilyn Mills
Marilyn Mills (1903 – 1956) was a Dutch-born American film actress of the silent era, described on theater marquees as "The Beautiful Marilyn Mills". She also produced two of her films. Mills' father managed a large bakery in Los Angeles. Before she became a film star, Mills worked as a stunt double, including riding for Mary Pickford in the film ''Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall''. She also performed with her horses in the Al G. Barnes Circus. Mills was married to J. Charles Davis, who worked in advertising and had his own film production company. Monte Montague (April 23, 1891 – April 6, 1959) was the stage name for Walter H. Montague, an American film actor. He appeared in more than 190 films between 1920 and 1954. The Film Foundation
The Film Foundation is a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to film preservation and the exhibition of restored and classic cinema. It was founded by director Martin Scorsese and several other leading filmmakers in 1990. The foundation raises funds and awareness for film preservation projects and creates educational programs about film. The foundation and its partners have restored more than 900 films. Billy Franey
William Gerald Franey (June 23, 1889 – December 6, 1940) was an American film actor. Born in Chicago in 1889, Franey appeared in more than 400 films between 1914 and 1941, mostly playing comedic roles. He was an actor of disheveled appearance and fuzzy mustache, usually in a suit a couple of sizes too big. His late career included numerous uncredited appearances in classics like ''Bringing Up Baby'', and he also appeared as the father-in-law of Edgar Kennedy in several of his series of short comedies.
