Alan Doyle
Alan Thomas Doyle (born May 17, 1969) is a Canadian musician and actor, best known as the lead singer of the Canadian folk rock band Great Big Sea. Life and career Alan Doyle was born and raised in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland, in a Roman Catholic family. He attended Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. It is also there that he met Séan McCann, Bob Hallett and Darrell Power with whom he formed Great Big Sea. He primarily plays electric and acoustic guitars, and the bouzouki for live performances, but he has been known to play mandolin and banjo. Before Great Big Sea, Doyle played in a duo with John Brenton called Staggering Home. As a teen he played in his uncle's band, the New Sandells. Doyle has also been involved with a handful of stage, television and film productions. Fortunate Ones
Fortunate Ones is a Canadian indie folk duo from St. John's, Newfoundland, consisting of Andrew James O'Brien and Catherine Allan. Their debut album, ''The Bliss'', was released in 2015 on Old Farm Pony Records, the label founded by singer-songwriter Rose Cousins. ''The Bliss'' was produced by Daniel Ledwell, and recorded at his studio in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia. O'Brien and Allan are a romantic couple as well as bandmates. O'Brien was previously a solo artist, having released the album ''Songs for Searchers'' in 2011, with Allan a part of his backing band. That album won him three Music Newfoundland and Labrador Awards. Allan has a degree in French studies from Memorial University and has also worked as a flight attendant. Both sing lead vocals, while O'Brien plays guitar, and Allan plays accordion and keyboards. He co-founded the rock band Payola$ with Bob Rock, serving as the band's main lyricist and vocalist. ''Robin Hood'' is a 2010 action film based on the Robin Hood legend, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Mark Addy, Oscar Isaac, Danny Huston, Eileen Atkins, and Max von Sydow. Development began on the project in January 2007 with Universal Pictures' purchase of a spec script by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris which would see the film focus on a more prominent and sympathetic Sheriff of Nottingham. Casting Crowe in the title role, Ridley Scott was hired to direct later that same year.
