''A Virginia Courtship'' is a 1921 American silent drama film directed by Frank O'Connor and written by Edfrid A. Bingham based upon the play of the same name by Eugene Wiley Presbrey. The film stars May McAvoy, Alec B. Francis, Jane Keckley, L. M. Wells, Casson Ferguson, Kathlyn Williams, and Richard Tucker. The film was released in December 1921, by Paramount Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine, Prudence Fairfax (McAvoy) is the ward of Colonel Fairfax (Francis), a lovable old Southern gentleman who has remained single because of a misunderstanding, some fifteen years previous, with his next door neighbor and childhood sweetheart Constance Llewellyn (Williams). While staging a chariot race she had seen on a poster, Pru is thrown from a runaway horse into a stream running through the Llewellyn estate and is rescued by Constance. They become fast friends. Frank O'Connor (actor)
Frank O'Connor (April 11, 1881 – November 22, 1959) was an American character actor and director, whose career spanned five decades and included appearances in over 600 films and television shows. Early in his career he was also billed as Frank A. Connor and Frank L.A. O'Connor. During the silent film era, he directed or was the assistant director on numerous films; he also penned several screenplays in both the silent and sound film eras. He is sometimes erroneously identified with the Frank O'Connor who was married to author Ayn Rand. Life and career Born on April 11, 1881, in New York City, O'Connor would begin his film career with a starring role in the 1915 silent film, ''The Voice in the Fog'', which also starred Donald Brian and Adda Gleason. He starred or had featured roles in six more films between 1917 and 1920, before focusing on work behind the camera. Guy Oliver
George Guy Oliver (September 25, 1878 – September 1, 1932) was an American actor. He appeared in at least 189 silent film era motion pictures and 32 talkies in character roles between 1911 and 1931. His obituary gives him credit for at least 600. He directed three films in 1915. Early years Oliver was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of J. O. and Beno Oliver, on September 25, 1889. His father bought a music store in Lamar, Missouri, in 1891, and a few years later he formed the Lamar Ladies' Silver Cornet Band. Oliver was playing cornet in the group when he was 6 years old, and his mother was the conductor. Later the family formed The Musical Olivers, a troupe that "played Carthage, Springfield, Joplin, Rolla, and nearly every other town and city in Missouri".
