A Very Merry Christmas
''A Very Merry Christmas'' is Bobby Vinton's ninth studio album and first Christmas album, released in October 1964. Vinton had released a four-track Christmas EP which entered the charts the previous year, containing none of the tracks included on ''A Very Merry Christmas''. Due to ''Billboard'' editorial policy, it was held off the regular Top LPs chart, but reached #13 on the Christmas Albums chart."Christmas Records." Bobby Vinton
Stanley Robert "Bobby" Vinton (born April 16, 1935) is a American former singer and occasional actor, who also hosted his own self-titled TV show in the late 1970s. As a teen idol, he became known as "The Polish Prince", as his music paid tribute to his Polish heritage. One of his most popular songs is " Blue Velvet" (a cover of the 1951 song recorded by Tony Bennett) which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1963, No. 1 in Canada (5 weeks), and number 2 in the UK in 1990. Early life Vinton was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, the only child of locally popular bandleader Stan Vinton and Dorothy Studzinski Vinton. He is of Polish and Lithuanian descent. The family surname was originally Vintula, and was changed by Vinton's father. Stan Applebaum
Stanley Seymour Applebaum (March 1, 1922 – February 23, 2019) was an American composer, arranger, musician and conductor. He arranged the orchestration on many pop hit records, most notably in the early 1960s, including The Drifters' " Save the Last Dance for Me"; Ben E. King's "Spanish Harlem" and " Stand By Me"; Brian Hyland's " Sealed with a Kiss"; and Neil Sedaka's "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do". Life and career Applebaum was born in Newark, New Jersey, United States. He started playing piano aged 7, after a doctor suggested it would help heal a broken finger, and began taking lessons. By the age of 12 he had started writing arrangements for his school band, and played at local weddings and events, and in clubs. Jerome (Jerry) Bresler (May 29, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois – March 17, 2000 in Delray Beach, Florida) was an American conductor, songwriter and musician. He played piano at the age of 2 and conducted the NYU orchestra at 14. One of his most famous musical compositions was ''Five Guys Named Moe''. He was educated at Theodore Roosevelt High School (Chicago) (where in 1931 he wrote the school song "Go Rough Riders Go"), Chicago Musical College and DePaul University, where he studied music theory, composition, conducting and orchestration with Dr. Samuel Lieberson, and at NYU with Schillinger method professor Rudolf Schramm. Auld Lang Syne
"Auld Lang Syne" (: note "s" rather than "z") is a popular song, particularly in the English-speaking world. Traditionally, it is sung to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve. By extension, it is also often heard at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions; for instance, many branches of the Scouting movement use it to close jamborees and other functions. The text is a Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 but based on an older Scottish folk song. In 1799, it was set to a traditional tune, which has since become standard. Irving Berlin
Irving Berlin (born Israel Beilin; yi, ישראל ביילין; May 11, 1888 – September 22, 1989) was a Russian-American composer, songwriter and lyricist. His music forms a large part of the Great American Songbook. Born in Imperial Russia, Berlin arrived in the United States at the age of five.
