A Tia Porinetia
A Tia Porinetia was a political party in French Polynesia. The party was founded in February 2013 by Teva Rohfritsch and members of To Tatou Aia and other small parties. The party was autonomist, and opposed the inclusion of French Polynesia on the United Nations list of non-self-governing territories. The party initially consisted of 12 members of the Assembly of French Polynesia, but its numbers were quickly reduced by the departure of Bruno Sandras following a dispute over list rankings. The party contested the 2013 French Polynesian legislative election, submitting a list of 73 candidates. The party won 25,453 votes in the first round (19.92% of the total). In the second round it gained the endorsements of the Rally for the Respect of the Polynesian Population and Te Ara Ti'a parties, winning 25% of the vote and 8 MPs. Teva Rohfritsch
Teva Rohfritsch (born 3 February 1975) is a French Polynesian politician and former Cabinet Minister. Since 2020 he has been one of French Polynesia's two senators in the French Senate, sitting with the Rally of Democrats, Progressives and Independents. Rohfritsch is a former director of Socredo bank. He was first appointed to French Polynesia's Council of Ministers as tourism minister in November 2003. In 2005 he was economics minister. Following the 2008 French Polynesian legislative election he was appointed finance minister. In Oscar Temaru's 2009 administration he was appointed Minister of Maritime Resources. In April 2009 he was suspended from Tahoera'a Huiraatira after refusing to quit Temaru's government. He left the party two days later. In November 2009 he was made Minister of economic restructuring, foreign trade, industry and business in Gaston Tong Sang's cabinet. United Nations List Of Non-self-governing Territories
Chapter XI of the United Nations Charter defines a non-self-governing territory (NSGT) as a territory "whose people have not yet attained a full measure of self-government". In practice, an NSGT is a territory deemed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to be "non-self-governing". Assembly Of French Polynesia
The Assembly of French Polynesia (french: Assemblée de la Polynésie française, Tahitian: Te apo'ora'a rahi o te fenua Mā'ohi) is the unicameral legislature of French Polynesia, an overseas country of the French Republic. It is located at Place Tarahoi in Pape'ete, Tahiti. It was established in its current form in 1996 although a Tahitian Assembly was first created in 1824. It consists of 57 members who are elected by popular vote for five years; the electoral system is based upon proportional representation in six multi-seat constituencies. Every constituency is represented by at least three representatives. Since 2001, the parity bill binds that the number of women matches the number of men elected to the Assembly. Bruno Sandras
Bruno Sandras (born 4 August 1961) is a French Polynesian politician and former Cabinet Minister. He was a member of the National Assembly of France from 2007 to 2012, representing the 2nd constituency of French Polynesia, as a member of the Union for a Popular Movement. He was Mayor of papara from 2001 until 2014, when he was dismissed from office after he was convicted of corruption. Sandras was born in Papeete in French Polynesia. After training as a lawyer he was general secretary of the ''A Tia I Mua'' trade union confederation from 1995 to 2000. He was elected Mayor of Papara in 2001. From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the Assembly of French Polynesia. In February 2005 following Jean-Christophe Bouissou's resignation he was appointed to cabinet in Gaston Flosse's government, taking over Buissou's portfolios. 2013 French Polynesian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in French Polynesia on 21 April and 5 May 2013. The result was a victory for the Tahoera'a Huiraatira party, which won 38 of the 57 seats in the Assembly. Electoral system The election was held using a two round system. In the first round, parties were required to cross a threshold of 12.5% in order to participate in the second round, although parties receiving between 5% and 12.5% were allowed to form an alliance for the second round with a party that did qualify. Gaston Flosse
Gaston Flosse (born 24 June 1931) is a French politician who has been President of French Polynesia on five separate occasions. He is currently a member of the Senate of France and has been a French junior minister under Jacques Chirac. He received sentences for corruption, which are under appeal. Life and career Flosse was born in Rikitea, Mangareva, French Polynesia. He is of both French and Polynesian descent. Flosse supports the current autonomy arrangement between French Polynesia and France and has led the conservative pro-autonomy and anti-independence party Tahoera'a Huiraatira (People's Rally for the Republic Party) for more than 20 years. He was the vice-president of the government council from 1982 to 1984, when more autonomy was gained and he became President of the Governing Council. Winfred Édouard Tereori Fritch (born 4 January 1952) is a French politician who has served as President of French Polynesia since 2014. He previously presided over the Assembly of French Polynesia on three occasions: from April 2007 to February 2008, from February 2009 to April 2009 and from May 2013 to September 2014. Until 2015, Fritch was co-president of Tahoera'a Huiraatira, a pro-French political party, before he became president of the newly-established Tapura Huiraatira.
