''A Song Is a City'' is the second studio album by Australian Rock music, rock band Eskimo Joe, released on 17 May 2004. The album debuted and peaked at number 2 on the ARIA Charts. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2004, the album was nominated for 6 awards, winning two; ARIA Award for Engineer of the Year and ARIA Award for Producer of the Year with Paul McKercher. Making of the album Eskimo Joe recorded the album with Paul McKercher on production. Vocalist and bassist Kavyen Temperley said on the Festival Records (Australia), Festival Mushroom Records website that the album is based on his experiences living in Fremantle. "The whole album is really about me, my friends, the people I love, and Fremantle. It's the stories that go on between us. It's similar to the people in every place all over the world. Eskimo Joe
Eskimo Joe are an Australian alternative rock band that was formed in 1997 by Stuart MacLeod, on lead guitar, Joel Quartermain, on drums and guitar, and Kavyen Temperley, on bass guitar and vocals, in East Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia. Eskimo () is an exonym used to refer to two closely related Indigenous peoples: the Inuit (including the Alaska Native Iñupiat, the Greenlandic Inuit, and the Canadian Inuit) and the Yupik (or Yuit) of eastern Siberia and Alaska. Satyam Kavyen "Kav" Temperley (born Finlay Beaton; 3 July 1978) is the lead singer, songwriter, bassist and occasional keyboard player of the Australian band Eskimo Joe. Biography Early life and education Temperley was born in Mosman Park, Western Australia, and grew up in Fremantle. At seven years of age, his name was changed to 'Satyam Kavyen Temperley'—Temperley is his mother's maiden name and 'Satyam Kavyen' means "Poet of Truth". The Temperley family were members of the 'Orange People' ( Rajneesh movement) and made trips to India as well Oregon, United States, throughout the early 1980s.
