''A Romance in Flanders'' is a 1937 British drama film directed by Maurice Elvey and starring Paul Cavanagh, Marcelle Chantal, Olga Lindo and Alastair Sim. It is set during the First World War with the British Expeditionary Force in Flanders. It was also released under the alternative title of ''Lost on the Western Front''. It was made at the Riverside Studios in Hammersmith by the independent Franco-London Films. Maurice Elvey (11 November 1887 – 28 August 1967) was one of the most prolific film directors in British history. He directed nearly 200 films between 1913 and 1957. During the silent film era he directed as many as twenty films per year. Muriel Lilian Pavlow (27 June 1921 – 19 January 2019) was an English actress. Her mother was French and her father Russian. Film and television career Muriel was born in Lewisham, south-east London, to Boris Pavlov, a Russian émigré and salesman, and his wife (Swiss-French) Germaine. They changed their name to Pavlow to sound more British. She grew up in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, and was educated at Colne Valley school in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, and in Lausanne. Pavlow began work as a child actress with John Gielgud and the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. She started acting at an early age and her first, brief, film appearance came at the age of 13 in the Gracie Fields morale-boosting musical ''Sing As We Go'' (1934). Andreas Malandrinos
Andreas Malandrinos ( el, Ανδρέας Μαλανδρίνος; 14 November 1888, in Greece – 11 July 1970, in Surrey) was a Greek-born actor who started appearing in British films from 1930, until his death 40 years later in Surrey, England. He was fluent in six languages and used this talent to good effect to flourish as a dialect comedian in British music halls. Many of his film appearances were so fleeting that his characters often had no names, only descriptions, e.g. "Valet with violin" in ''The Prince and the Showgirl'' (1957) and "Woodcutter" in ''The Fearless Vampire Killers'' (1967).
