A Piece Of Sky (1980 Film)
''A Piece of Sky'' ( A Slap in the Face) ( hy, Կտոր մը երկինք; russian: Пощёчина) is a 1980 Soviet comedy film directed by Henrik Malyan, based on Vahan Totovents's story "Light Blue Flowers". It is a societal critique told through the love story between Torik, a shy outcast saddle maker, and Anjel, a prostitute. Plot Orphaned young Torik is adopted by his aunt, Turnanta, and uncle, Grigor-agha. His uncle tries to interest in his profession, making saddles for donkeys, but the boy dreams only of freedom from Armenia's repressive society of the 1930s. The boy takes over the business upon his uncle's death. As he grows up, his aunt tries to find him a wife. However, due to his job and status, no woman in the village wants to marry him. Henrik Malyan
Henrik Sureni Malyan ( hy, Հենրիկ Մալյան, also transliterated Henrik Malian; September 30, 1925 – March 14, 1988) was an Armenian film director and writer. He was born in Telavi, Georgia. Malyan's uncle was famous actor David Malyan. He studied chess at an early age, along with Tigran Petrosian. From 1942 to 1945 he worked as a draftsman and designer at a factory in Tbilisi. In 1951 he graduated from the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography. Between 1951 and 1954, he was a director at various theatres in Armenia. In 1953, he graduated from the Moscow Theatre Institute. From 1954 on he worked with the film studio Armenfilm. His 1977 film ''Nahapet'' (''Life Triumphs'') is considered to be one of the most important Armenian films to deal with the Armenian genocide. It was exhibited in the 1978 Cannes Film Festival. Armenfilm (russian: Арменфильм; hy, Արմենֆիլմ), also known as Hayfilm ( hy, Հայֆիլմ), is an Armenian film studio located in Yerevan. The studio was founded on 16 April 1923 as a production unit of the Soviet State Cinema Organization, with Daniel Dznuni as the first director. Armenfilm was sold by the state to private investors in 2005 with a long list of conditions to revitalize the studio's equipment and produce new content. It was renamed as CS Film Studios but failed to produce the required new feature films. Tigran Yeghiayi Mansurian ( hy, Տիգրան Եղիայի Մանսուրյան; born 27 January 1939) is a leading Armenian composer of classical music and film scores, People's Artist of the Armenian SSR (1990), and Honored Art Worker of the Armenian SSR (1984).
