A Parade Of Animals
''A Parade of Animals'', or ''Parade of Animals'', is an outdoor bronze sculpture series by Peter Helzer, installed in Willson Park, on the Oregon State Capitol grounds, in Salem, Oregon, United States. Description The installation features three groups of animals playing musical instruments. One depicts two stacked frogs; the one on bottom is walking on stilts and the one on top is playing the concertina. Another shows two crocodiles, one of which is playing a drum and horn. The third sculpture depicts three rodents, one of which is carrying a horn. History The sculptures were dedicated in 1991 and commemorate the children of Oregon. Their condition were deemed "well maintained" during the Smithsonian Institution's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" survey in July 1993. ''Rosa Parks'' is an outdoor 2009 bronze sculpture depicting the African-American Civil Rights activist of the same name by Pete Helzer, installed outside the bus station in Eugene, Oregon, in the United States. Description and history Pete Helzer's statue depicting Rosa Parks sitting in a bus seat was unveiled on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in 2009, the same day Lane Transit District's Eugene Station Plaza was renamed Rosa Parks Plaza, making Eugene the first U.S. city to dedicate a bus station in Parks' honor. The sculpture cost $44,000; the first $10,000 was contributed by Lane Transit District and the remainder was raised from local businesses, civic organizations, community members, and government agencies. Helzer said of the project, "This one had so much attached to it in terms of community interest and community support and it feels good." Helzer's neighbor, Lacie Heffron, modeled for the sculpture. ''The Storyteller'', also known as the Ken Kesey Memorial, is an outdoor bronze sculpture by Pete Helzer, installed at Kesey Square (located at Broadway and Willamette Street) in Eugene, Oregon, in the United States. Unveiled in 2003, it depicts American novelist, essayist, and countercultural figure Ken Kesey reading to his three grandchildren, Kate Smith, Caleb Kesey and Jordan Smith.
