''A Night in New Arabia'' is a Lost film, lost 1917 in film, 1917 four-reel silent film, directed by :it:Thomas R. Mills, Thomas Mills. It is based on the short story "A Night in New Arabia" from ''Strictly Business'', a collection of 23 short stories by O. Henry published in 1910. The movie critic for the ''Moving Picture World'', Margaret I. MacDonald, says that it "...is one of the best of the O. Henry four-part Feature film, features". The picture was part of the ''O. Henry Stories'' series of films produced by Vitagraph Studios/Broadway Star Features and distributed by the General Film Company. All based on O. The ''Moving Picture World'' was an influential early trade journal for the American film industry, from 1907 to 1927. An industry powerhouse at its height, ''Moving Picture World'' frequently reiterated its independence from the film studios. In 1911, the magazine bought out ''Views and Film Index''. Its reviews illustrate the standards and tastes of film in its infancy, and shed light on story content in those early days. By 1914, it had a reported circulation of approximately 15,000. The publication was founded by James Petrie (J.P.) Chalmers, Jr. (1866–1912), who began publishing in March 1907 as ''The Moving Picture World and View Photographer''. In December 1927, it was announced that the publication was merging with the ''Exhibitor's Herald'', when it was reported the combined circulation of the papers would be 16,881. "The Duplicity of Hargraves" is a short story by the American writer William Sydney Porter, better known by his pen name: O. Henry. The story was featured in ''The Junior Munsey'', February 1902, and republished in the volume ''Sixes and Sevens'' (1911). Summary Sixty-eight-year-old Major Pendleton Talbot and his practical spinster daughter Lydia move to Washington D.C. The Talbots have fallen from their aristocratic past in the South before the American Civil War and are now quite poor. The pair stay at a boarding house in the nation's capital. There they become acquainted with Henry Hopkins Hargraves, an ambitious actor in vaudeville. Hargraves is seemingly spellbound by the Major's tales of his happier past (of which he is writing a book). Eventually, the Talbots fall behind on their rent. The Cop And The Anthem
"The Cop and the Anthem" is a December 1904 short story by the United States author O. Henry. It includes several of the classic elements of an O. Henry story, including a setting in New York City, an empathetic look at the state of mind of a member of an underprivileged class, and an ironic ending. Plot summary "The Cop and the Anthem" has only one character who is given a name, the protagonist "Soapy." It is made clear that Soapy is homeless, one of the underclass men and women who flocked to New York City during the earliest years of the twentieth century. The short story's narrative is set in an unstated day in late fall. Soapy faces the urgent necessity of finding some sort of shelter for the winter. He is psychologically experienced in thinking of Blackwell's Island, the local jail, as a ''de facto'' winter homeless shelter, and the narrative shows him developing a series of tactics intended to encourage the police to classify him as a criminal and arrest him.
