''A Night Full of Rain'' ( it, La fine del mondo nel nostro solito letto in una notte piena di pioggia; literal English translation: ''The end of the world in our usual bed on a night full of rain'') is a 1978 Italian American film directed by Lina Wertmüller and stars Candice Bergen and Giancarlo Giannini. Lina Wertmüller was nominated as best director at the 28th Berlin International Film Festival in 1978. The plot concerns a romantic and heart-breaking relationship between a chauvinist Italian journalist and a feminist American photographer. The film was shot in San Francisco and Rome and was the director's first film with original dialogue in the English language. Arcangela Felice Assunta Wertmüller von Elgg Spanol von Braueich (14 August 1928 – 9 December 2021), known as Lina Wertmüller (), was an Italian film director and screenwriter. She is best known for her 1970s art film, art house films ''Seven Beauties'' (a genre-bending World War II film for which she became the first female director to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director in 1977), ''The Seduction of Mimi'', ''Love and Anarchy'', and ''Swept Away (1974 film), Swept Away''. In 2019, Wertmüller was announced as one of four recipients of the Academy Honorary Award for her career, the second female director to be so honoured. Lilli Carati (23 September 1956 – 21 October 2014) was an Italian actress. Biography Lilli Carati was born in Varese (Lombardy). In 1974, she was named "Miss Elegance" at a beauty contest in Calabria and began working as a fashion model in Milan.
