''A Man Astray'' (German: ''Ein Mann auf Abwegen'') is a 1940 German comedy adventure film directed by Herbert Selpin and starring Hans Albers, Charlotte Thiele and Hilde Weissner.Hull p.222 The film is an adaptation of the 1938 novel ''Percy auf Abwegen'' by Hans Zehrer. It was shot at the Halensee Studios in Berlin and the Bavaria Studios in Munich. Location shooting took place around Lake Starnberg in Bavaria. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Paul Markwitz and Fritz Maurischat. Herbert Selpin
Herbert Selpin (29 May 1904 – 1 August 1942) was a German film director and screenwriter of light entertainment during the 1930s and 1940s. He is best known for his final film, the partly suppressed ''Titanic (1943 film), Titanic'', during the production of which he was arrested by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. He was later found dead in his prison cell. Life and career Herbert Selpin was born on 29 May 1904 in Berlin. After his medical studies in the same city, Selpin worked as a dancer, boxer, librarian, and art seller before he obtained, in the mid-1920s, an internship at the prestigious Universum Film AG, UFA film studios. Among other assignments at UFA, he worked on the set of Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's ''Faust (1926 film), Faust'' (1926). Bavaria Studios
Bavaria Studios are film production studios located in Munich, the capital of the region of Bavaria in Germany, and a subsidiary of Bavaria Film. History The studios were constructed in the suburb of Geiselgasteig in 1919 shortly after the First World War. During their early years they were known as the Emelka Studios, while Geiselgasteig has also often been used to refer to them. They provided a provincial rival to the emerging dominance of Berlin studios, particularly the UFA conglomerate. Chauffeur
A chauffeur is a person employed to drive a passenger motor vehicle, especially a luxury vehicle such as a large sedan or limousine. Originally, such drivers were often personal employees of the vehicle owner, but this has changed to specialist chauffeur service companies or individual drivers that provide both driver and vehicle for hire. Fritz Maurischat (April 27, 1893 in Berlin – December 11, 1986) was a German production designer. He made his film debut in 1924. Over the next 38 years, he worked on over 70 films, all of them in his native Germany.
