RBL Posse is a gangsta rap group from the Hunters Point section in San Francisco, California. The members were Black C, Mr. Cee, and Hitman. The only surviving member is Black C. History RBL Posse was formed in 1991 by Black C (Christian Mathews) and Mr. Cee (Kyle Church). Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. In-a-Minute Records was a record company founded in 1991 by Jason Blaine. It featured many artists from the underground bay area rap scene including RBL Posse, Andre Nickatina, I.M.P, Pooh-Man, Totally Insane. The label was shut down in 2000. Origins and early formation The label was founded in 1991 in Oakland, California, by Jason Blaine, who was disappointed by the fact that many rappers in the Bay Area were unsigned at the time. He offered RBL Posse $10,000 ahead of time to sign with his label, which they quickly accepted due to the fact that they were still selling tapes on the street. Although the label never had any major commercially successful albums, Andre Nickatina's 1995 album '' I Hate You with a Passion'' appeared at #79 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and #3 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. ''Ruthless by Law'' is the second studio album by American hip hop group RBL Posse. It was released on November 15, 1994 via In-A-Minute Records. Recording sessions took place at Bayview Productions in Richmond, California. Production was handled by Cellski, The Enhancer, and RBL Posse, with Tony Jackson serving as executive producer. It features guest appearances from Cellski and Herm. The album peaked at number 197 on the ''Billboard'' 200, number 23 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and number three on the Heatseekers Albums chart in the United States. It is the group's last album featuring member Mr. Cee as he was shot nine times and killed near his home on Harbor Road on New Year's Day 1996. Totally Insane was a hip hop group from East Palo Alto, California, whose members were Mac-10, Ad Kapone and Scoot Dogg. They were signed to In a Minute Records from 1991 to 1995. Biography Phillip Allen, alias Mac-10 or Ten Dolla, and Adam Hicks, alias Ad Kapone, came together in 1991 and were signed to In-a-Minute Records. What first sparked their success was the release of the single, "No More Mr. Nice Guy." The duo's first album was 1992's ''Direct from the Backstreet'', which peaked at #87 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Rapper Scoot Dogg of EPA is also a member, but joined later, and appeared on more than one album; however, he was not on every album.
